need a power amp to run a set of infinity kappa 9s
09-04-15: AudiolabyrinthGet a krell 700 cx and recap it, call it the day! Your done, lolNow that would up a rocket up them 24 x 20amp BJT per channel, overkill yes.http://www.hifisentralen.no/forumet/attachments/vennetra-der-hifimerker/232475d1386...
need a power amp to run a set of infinity kappa 9s
The Acoustat TNT200 has 7amp Mosfet output devices at 6 per channel. A max of 21amp peak, Krells can have 15 - 20amp output devices at up to 4 x the amount, do the math. The TNT will drive the them ok?, but where the Infinity's load down low and i...
need a power amp to run a set of infinity kappa 9s
CsontosGeorge, Anyway, it seems that the very nature of mosfets would make them especially suitable for low impedance loads, no?Simply put NO, they will drive them but will run out of steam (current) at those loads below 2ohm, especially at the b...

Al (Almarg) is right Fartman. You need and amp that will deliver big current, which means one that can almost double it's wattage from 8ohm to 4ohm to 2ohm. This means BJT (bi-polar) output stage solid state type amps, with big power supply, eg: o...
Placing Dac Near Power Conditioner
I wouldn't put any source equipment near a power conditioner, as they can vary the noise and maybe even rf they put out according to the load level they see. Especially if you've got poweramps plugged into them, which I believe is a no no, as big ...
Would adding a pre back into the system eliminate
He doesn't have a passive anywhere, his Belcanto 2.5 dac has a fix or variable 100ohm RCA or 200ohms XLR output impedances. But his Belcanto 2.5 dac does have "24Bit Volume Control"Cheers George
Would adding a pre back into the system eliminate
Would adding a pre back into the system eliminate some extreme glare? JerryaudioNo but it could mask it, and if it masks it, it will no doubt mask other things as well such as your new found detail.Your experiment was a good one going direct from ...
Passive & Tubed pre-amps to power amp at same time?
If I get this right with what you want to do. What I would do is put all your sources into the inputs of the active preamp so you can switch between them, then come out of the tape output of the active preamp into input of the passive preamp and t...
Any comments on DAC directly to Power amp with no
The "perfect" preamp if there ever has been one, has always been said to sound like a piece of wire with gain, not adding or taking anything away from the sound of the sourceAnd this is what a direct source to amp connection will sound like if don...

08-23-15: CerrotYou lose res with every reduction in volume in (most) digital volume controls.CerrotOnly if the Berkeley is below 75% of full output, it's called "Bit Stripping"Your Berkeley Dac from the specs I saw gives out a massive 6v XLR or 3...

08-20-15: Zd542So, basically what you're saying, is that a manufacturer may raise the gain on a single ended components xlr outputs to make it appear balanced if someone were to look at the spec sheet? My ex-girlfriend from Russia wasn't even that...
Any comments on DAC directly to Power amp with no
08-19-15: Zd542Fully balanced components usually list 2 sets of specs.Zd542 That can also be misleading, as if they used an opamp for the balanced input or output of source or poweramp it's very possible that it's not a unity gain stable opamp, so...
Any comments on DAC directly to Power amp with no
No preamp Charles1dad, just the normal Redbook 2v buffered output, at a nice low 40ohms output impedance. Even better again 29ohms as tested by SterophileCheers George
Any comments on DAC directly to Power amp with no
As far as XLR (balanced) or SE (single ended) goes.Unless you plan to run 10's of meters of interconnect from the dac to the amp, single ended connection should sound better, as usually there are less electronics in the signal path. Unfortunately ...

Hgeifman, even better with the Bricasti M1 DAC as it is even lower in output impedance than your Ayre at 40ohms output impedance!!. It's all about "Ohm's and Kirchoffs laws" Both are a perfect match with your Lux and will have better drive than mos...
