New preamp, loss of low freq.?
Just looked at the Onkyo P-308 and it has a switch, similar to a loudness switch but without the HF boost, it only boosts from 200zh down. Maybe you used to have this switch on when you used to listen to it, and your Sanders pre is not going to gi...
New preamp, loss of low freq.?
arctikdeth, take it easy or you'll blow a gasket. We now know that the preamp is not capacitor coupled, and can drive the McCormack's 10kohm input load fine What was the preamp you used before this Sanders that gave you bass?Cheers George
Who tried Class D only to return to S/S or Tube
guidocorona, if you were any linear amp designer and saw on the r&d bench test a square wave that looked like this. http://www.stereophile.com/images/1212AM1fig02.jpg You would say this amp is broken, do not put it into production yet till we ...
New preamp, loss of low freq.?
Or you could just use another poweramp that you know is 47kohm or higher, and if that then gives you the bass your missing you know the output coupling cap is not big enough in the preamp when it’s with the 10kohm McCormack amp.You also asked why ...
New preamp, loss of low freq.?
If and I state if, this preamp has an output coupling cap this could be the problem as I’ve outlined above, it has nothing to do with the output impedance of your preamp which is nice and low at 50ohms being solid state, it's to do with the output...
New preamp, loss of low freq.?
Amp 10kohm, this could be the problem if your preamp is capacitor coupled on it’s output. As if the preamp’s output cap (if it has one), the size of it could have been calculated for a more normal (industry standard) >47kohm input impedance pow...
New preamp, loss of low freq.?
If the preamp is designed right, then there can be one reason for the loss of bass. If the preamp has an output coupling cap and it is not big enough (in uf) if it sees a low impedance input of the next component. So the question is what is the in...
Which phono preamplifier do you recommend?
+1 For the Tom Evans, we had a big 10 phono stage shootout at one of our audio society meetings, it won out by a big way, the one came in second was along way behind.Cheer George
Preamp
You’ve got something wrong there Brad with the 6-12v DC. The output from source or preamp is AC, if it were DC you’d blow amp and speaker up in an instant.Your FPB-600 as tested by Stereophile puts out it’s full output of 935Wpc!!! into 8 ohms, wi...
Preamp
bradley_horwitz hi, what is your source? and does it have a volume/level control? If so have you tried to use direct into the Krell? Cheers George
Who tried Class D only to return to S/S or Tube
I’m waiting for the Class D component technology to advance enough so the switching frequency can be much higher, only then will the switching frequency artifacts be abled to be filtered out away from the audio band. As of now it’s too low and whe...
newbie DAC question
Multibit is said to be "Bit Perfect" for the conversion of PCM (Redbook dc) many hiend manufactures are reverting back to it for PCM replay, after going down the cheaper Delta Sigma conversion way, like Schitt did for this Bifrost which is Delta S...
newbie DAC question
Hi Kremrik, if you just play Redbook cd's  you may get a better sound by using the Schitt  Bifrost Dac (with Multibit upgrade) which makes it better for PCM (Redbook replay) and you can try it for 15 days as well or return it.Cheers George
Legacy ultra mono bloc
If you can believe the specs, these are serious older big Krell Monoblock  and Parasound JC1 Monoblock type of amp, heaps of current and able to double it's wattage, would have been nice to see the 2ohm figure. 26kg each amp. Something Wilson Alex...
Best DAC for pcm files
Yes gpgr4bluKeith Johnson is the master of PCM recordings "Reference Recordings" and a firm believer in HDCD.The Spectral Pro Dac which is their only dac used "DACs are four UltraAnalog  D20400A 20-bit types with HDCD filter chips, made of discret...
