HOLO Audio Spring DAC: Affordable discrete R2R Multibit Dac, could be a winner. Finally a review, BUT!!!! it’s done by a computer/software geek, with more emphasis on what the source is, and not much in the way of how it sounds, especially nothing when being fed PCM, 16/44/24/96 or DXD pcm, which is where it should shine.http...
Do equipment stands have an impact on electronics? I've always found that stands with speakers on them must have zero back and forward motion, as the drivers move this way. Any back and forward motion of the stand will be lost energy being projected into the room, being waisted by the drivers inst...
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever? Hi mward, glad you like it, good that you gave it a few months before commenting on it. As for the " iFi 12v power supply "I think you are the first to try it, I had high hopes for this. But as you say it's not that discernible from the standard w...
Climbing the Preamp ladder Make sure no moisture gets in, and on a dry day seal them up with a thin wiped layer of some clear silicon sealant.Cheers George
Climbing the Preamp ladder dpm2340 OPi didn’t know this. all i have ever done with the remote is change volume. i guess i’ll have to figure out how to make the changes. thanks. by the way can i buy a remote? If you get in touch with Wadia, they could have a s/h unit they may...
You want the TRUTH from those Wilson Alexia's, maybe you can't handle the TRUTH As I said sunshine, It was "tongue in cheek"
You want the TRUTH from those Wilson Alexia's, maybe you can't handle the TRUTH The truth is sure getting expensive these days.Yes they are a rich, the Parasound JC1 Mono-blocks can control the Alexia's at 6k a pair, I've heard them on them, and they were very good and could sound even better especially in their higher class ...
Climbing the Preamp ladder dpm2340The best preamp would sound like "nothing", like (straight piece of wire), I have yet to hear one that does this, all are coloured in some way and the reason they all sound different. You have that piece of wire at your disposal as Wadia hav...
You want the TRUTH from those Wilson Alexia's, maybe you can't handle the TRUTH A bit anal/argumentative there sunshine, the "You can’t handle the Truth" (A Few Good Men reference) "is tongue in cheek". The technical here know what I’m on about, as the Wilson Alexia’s are such a savage hard load there are only a few amps that...
You want the TRUTH from those Wilson Alexia's, maybe you can't handle the TRUTH So George, have you actually heard the Amp? No, I’m just putting it out there, I like what I see in the bench test measurements and aim for similar measurements when I have built the odd powerhouse, except mine were much higher biased into class A...
You want the TRUTH from those Wilson Alexia's, maybe you can't handle the TRUTH I wonder is there any room left to squeeze a supercharger? Sure I get it, but since the energy it makes wasn’t designed to turn gears putting a horsepower rating on an amplifier seems a bit too gimmicky to me. Try driving a pair of Wilson Alexia’s...
What are the best drop in subs for a 12AU7?? What are the best drop in subs for a 12AU7??NOS RCA black plate 12AY7 I found these to be best for input tubes, not too soft/rounded as 12au7 and not to highlighted as 12AX7.Cheers George
High end vintage vs contemporary DAC's - are sonic improvements real? raueda1Most of the vintage high end dacs used Multibit dac chips, today these are very expensive and hard to get, some dac manufacturers are even making discrete version Mulitbit for their costly dacs.If you want just to get the best from your 15,...
Looking for a new pre-amp!! wayne3720Many Belles amps are just around 1v input sensitivity for full output. Make sure you pick either a passive preamp or active with little or unity gain. The last thing you want is to have loud listening level around 8 to 9 o’clock on the th...
Would increasing the gain in the amp give more weight to the sound? Any negatives? Genez has hit on a good point there, but it could be just one channel that's out of phase with the wiring in the cartridge/arm/or even the PH1. Just try reversing the polarity of one channel first. Cheers George |
