Fix or replace Accuphase DC 91 DAC? ACCUPHASE DC-91 16 x PCM63P-K – SM5842APThis one of the great R2R multibit dacs, that does justice to Redbook . I'd buy it off you if you were in Australia. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1X-PCM63P-K-20-Bit-Monolithic-Audio-IGITAL-TO-ANALOG-CO...
mcintosh mc602 g_nakamoto i read that mcintosh has a patent on their autoformers. Can you point us to where you read that, with a link?Cheers George
mcintosh mc602 Yeah there are, but the negatives for me anyway far out weigh any positives they "may" have, very much like using another brand of auto transformer on a decent solid state amp. Just band-aid fixes so they can drive lower impedance's.Cheers George
Mark Levinson has odd choice for cap upgrades in one of their service bulletins. Why? generatorlabs Mark Levinson recommend replacing them with Ceramic X7R .01uF @ 200v The XR7's are great for HF filtering, I use them on dac I/V stage voltage rail decoupling. That's why ML are recommending them.Cheers George
Class D is just Dandy! it allows for direct playback of a class D amp from a digital source, There's your hint Eric from Ralph , think about it.Cheers George
mcintosh mc602 I could never understand, why put an output transformer on (if well made?) a solid state amp, to add colouration's? to me it’s just bizarre.Cheers George

Test your DAC! Free Format Comparison. Looking forward to hear what members think of this, especially with the DXD (which is pcm) being done by one of the few discrete r2r multibit dacs that can convert it without down sampling, as it should be a real eye (ear) opener.Cheers George
Best high-efficiency speaker under 10K Best high-efficiency speaker under 10K Being high efficiency, and easy to drive more times than not, go hand in hand with some form of colouration.I can think of one with high’ish efficiency and easy to drive, that would be the some of the TAD sp...
Thinking of replacing my Bat spaceheater with class D, real world thoughts please Yeah, properly designed class d doesn't have the distortion spectrum of tube amps. Correct, but class-d's can have other problems that are not so easy on the ear, at least the distortions from tube amps are nice sounding ones "2hd", and easily ...
Rotel RX-975 compatible with a moving coil cartridge? "If you have enough volume no the volume control", there’s nothing wrong with feeding a moving coil cartridge into the moving magnet input of the Rotel.Audio Research have this setup only on many of their phono preamps.Cheers George
Best "RedBook" player out there spaz To get the very best out of RedBook (pcm), get a R2R Multibit player, like a Mark Levinson No 39, or a Linn CD12 MkI, II or III, or a Naim CD555 with or without 555 power base. All these have the proper Pacific Microsonic hdcd chip in them. ...

Any comments on DAC going direct to power amplifier or to pre-ampliifer? My local retailer HIGHLY RECOMMENDS the use of a pre-amplifier. Couldn't be that he wants to sell you a preamp?Your Bricasti’s output buffer stage is as good if not better than most active preamps, especially tube preamps.Did you calibrate the ...
