Active or passive?
Active on the bass and good quality passive on the mids highs.  I've yet to hear an active xover (even discrete) better the sound of a good passive (>200hz) on the mids and highs of my ESL's, active's seem to sterilize the music. But on the bas...
Stynergistic Research FEQ X 4
I also wrote: "and now have the FEQ x 4 in place behind my speakers." Your an SR "fuser", that kinda says it all.
Stynergistic Research FEQ X 4
Just finished outfitting my small listening space (3rd bedroom about 11’ x 12’) with Synergistic Research’s HFT’s (full spectrum using the standard HFT’s, 2.0’s and X’s Synergistic HFT, ECT and PHT all work perfectly right out of the box with no ...

mewsickbuff Forget spending $$$$ on the voodoo snake oil, upgrade your systems components instead for something better, you’ll get a lot more value out of your dollar and your system’s sound will benefit for real. Some of their products have merit,...
Watts and power
hifihottie For most speakers, the amperage is more important than the wattage. This is one area in which most class D amps fall short of a class A or AB amp with an oversized linear power supply. Correct, and why you’ll find it hard to see specs...
Power/Current: How much is realistic?
tomic601 Hang on, I have a 3020 and 3 ohm Apogee Stage... be right back..... Here's two amps "both 2ohm stable", "both 20w into 8ohms"Nad 3020 (20w-8ohms)https://cnet3.cbsistatic.com/img/klaIAiTLknrDs4f4n0XPLbtx-Bc=/1092x0/2011/07/15/76dcc9f...
Power/Current: How much is realistic?
"2 Ohm Load Stable"  So is a a 1980’s 20w NAD 3020 integrated.Doesn’t mean it can "drive" the loads of speakers with 2ohms impedanceQuoting this "meaningless manufactures statement", "2 Ohm Load Stable" hoping readers/customers are gullible enough...
Does Digital Try Too Hard?

WD-40 for electronics
WD-40 for electronics No it’s just Kerosene in a spay can and will dry things out even more and make those pots even more noisy once it’s dried out. You want a proper electronics spray cleaner with lube properties for potentiometers. Don’t get suc...
Power amps with fans -- maintenance?
cpacker Always a good idea to use a small to brush while sucking with a vacuum cleaner crevice nozzle to suck up the dust on the fan blades and heatsinks, entry vent and exit vent. Then not a bad idea to keep them nice and quite, put one or two...
Does Digital Try Too Hard?
I used to have digital glare many years ago. Not even a hint of it now. Yeah, me too, when it was in it’s infancy yes it did have glare courtesy of the "brick wall filters", and bad analog stages jiter ect ect, but now it’s got more detail, separ...

mesch jmolsberg No good for a passive with up to 2kohm dac output impedance and his power amp at 27kohm input impedance. He needs an active preamp best would be a Schiit Freya with "passive" "tube" or "solid state" selectable outputs. Ideal becaus...
Should I sell my accuphase for this schiit
You have to use the Sys to lower the gain of the Vidar to match the Aegir. As the Vidar has 22 x gain and the Aegir is 12 x gain, so there is quite a need for the Sys to be on the Vidar to equalize the gains. Without the Sys your speakers will soun...
Should I sell my accuphase for this schiit
There is no reason I can fathom why the Vidar did not work on the mid/bass with the Sys in this arrangement  https://ibb.co/SRj7hPT. Something was not wired correctly, or the Sys is faulty.(try again double checking all connections and put your...
Should I sell my accuphase for this schiit
@delvalle23 Yes the bass could get "too" much if the Vidar has a touch more gain if your not using the Sys to gain match. As for the Vidar not working when the Sys in in the mix wired up like this https://ibb.co/SRj7hPT , it could only be the wr...
