Network Transport vs. CD Transport
Here’s reviews on the Cambridge CXC Transport https://www.tnt-audio.com/sorgenti/cambridge_cxc_e.html https://www.whathifi.com/au/cambridge-audio/cxc/review https://www.audiotrends.com.au/cambridge-audio-cxc-v2-cd-transport-lunar-grey.html In A...
Network Transport vs. CD Transport
Luckily I still have all my CDs in boxes up in the attic. You are either very smart or lucky, many sold them and are now cutting their throats, or giving up on hiend audio. Marantz CD6000 Original SE Should be "ok" and uses the Sony KSS213, the...
Network Transport vs. CD Transport
will any of these be comparable or better than let’s say a decent CD transport feeding the Chord Qutest? For example a Cambridge CXC, or a used high end player? Depends, what model was the Marantz you used as a transport, there were good and bad...
Pass Labs XA30.8
panerai557 OP Do you think Pass Labs XA30.8 has enough power to drive 86 dBL Dynaudio focus 380 speaker well? Can't find much measured info on those speakers, if they are true 4ohm you should be fine with the 30.8, because it gives 60w out t...
Well, I decided to get an Audio Illusion M 3A
A great tube pre one of the best I’ve heard, probably because they run the 6DJ8/6922 quite hard, my mate gets around a year out of them, he says his favorites in order are RCA, Siemen, Telfunken, as he says they are the cleanest sounding to him, I...
What would you say is THE MOST important factor to good imaging?
You don’t have to do 1/8" increments. Image placement:Toe out too far you start to get just a softened center image, and nothing either side of that center image.Toe in too far and you get nothing outside the speakers, and a strong center image. D...
Can Any MSB Premier Dac Owners Chime In???
If you still do cd or pcm redbook and don’t bother with dsd, then go the MSB (which still does dsd), direct into your Classe’ monoblocks. https://www.msbtechnology.com/dacs/premier-dac-features/ Cheers George
Preamp for Burmester power amp
They were Linn Isobarics a very over damped design, back in the 70-80’s. When the Linn/Naim retailer Riverina HiFi demo’ed a KSA Krell on them they had very little bass weight!!!!!, yet with the first early Naim 250’s they had had all the bass wei...
I sure miss my Quad ‘57s!
I find tube amps that only have 8ohm taps usually sound a bit soft and rolled off in the highs with the 57's, as they are a 2.5ohm load already at 10khz and falling to 1ohm at 20khz. This is why I prefer a good stable 30-40w Class-A solid state th...
Oscilloscopes - what specs to look for?
Actually the same guy with the Tek scope also has a couple of good frequency generators, including a Tek CFG250, the B&K one in nice. https://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_odkw=&epid=2253449959&_ssn=shorewa8&hash=item23d429af22%3Ag%3A7...
Oscilloscopes - what specs to look for?
Here’s a link to a Tektronix CFG250 audio frequency generator, a great little unit I also used to have. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313.TR1.TRC0.A0.H0.XTektronix+CFG250.TRS0&_nkw=Tektronix+CFG250&_...
Oscilloscopes - what specs to look for?
eyrepm Just get this 100MHz dual trace Tektronix, it’s calibrated with probes, and it’s got a digital "frequency counter", and "volt meter" in it as well, you can download the instruction book on line. I had one for years, very reliable, wish I st...
I sure miss my Quad ‘57s!
Roger's (rip) RM-200 was the best, as it has 1 or 2ohm output taped transformers, with the 2ohm tap it drove the ESL63’s to perfection, but it’s 100w gets knocked way down from the 8ohm tap figure, but still enough to get decent level out of the E...
Oscilloscopes - what specs to look for?
eyrepm Don’t listen to those saying 20MHz is overkill. You want at least 20MHz or higher, so oscillations can be found viewed and rectified, dual trace so you can compare channels, and a decent brand with good quality probes. Other wise you’ll be l...
I sure miss my Quad ‘57s!
Hard to live without ESL's when you've owned them. And yes very unfriendly to amps that had a go at driving them properly. Naim amps would blow as soon as they saw them, they just had to be in the same room, not even wired up!!!😉Cheers George
