does temperature affect speaker performance?
Weather affects the power grid, so indirectly affects the speakers. High pressure systems are generally good for the sound, nice sunny ☀️ days, whereas low pressure systems, rainy, stormy days, are generally bad for the sound. Low humidity is gene...
The invention of measurements and perception
@erik_squires, since you are a teacher of experimental psychology and you do not see that background too much I thought I would ask you, by any chance are you familiar with the now defunct group PEAR 🍐 Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research? Als...
The invention of measurements and perception
erik_squiresMy point is, we perceive something, then we find a way to measure it, then we use that measurement to tell us something. That doesn’t mean all perception has been measured. >>>>PWB Electronics (The Belts) in UK spent thirty...
Why Power Cables Affect Sound
mrdecibelThrough our phone’s speakers, I hear the acoustic differences of his voice from each one of his surroundings. That’s nothing. When I do the TT over the phone I can hear the change in the customer’s system, when he has it on and playing mus...
Why Power Cables Affect Sound
Gotcha covered, I went back and added that before I read your post. WARNING - I oft use all 30 minutes of edit time. 😛
Why Power Cables Affect Sound
I actually don’t think there’s much mystery left with power cords. I mean, come on! You got your gauge, your metal of choice, silver or copper, stranded or solid core, geometry of choice, shielded or unshielded, highly polished conductors, advance...
Back to the drawing board
Treating the room can be quite a challenge for frequencies below 100 Hz. Let me give you an example. Once upon a time I had a standing wave in the back of the room two feet from the wall around 70 Hz, which is below the operating range of Tube Tra...
Threat of fire from audio equipment
If your equipment caught fire or your house burned down raise your hands.
Well... guess I have to jump in the rabbit hole of speaker cables... lol
Great reading from that link in previous post. 😬“Along with green magic markers on CDs and audio bricks is another item called the wire conditioner. The claim is that unused wires do not sound the same as wires that have been used for a period of ...
Thinking about upgrading, but wondering about diminishing returns
Hierarchy of sound - A tweaked inexpensive system can be made to sound better than a much more expensive system that isn’t tweaked. Corollary - you can spend much more on Tweaks than you can on equipment upgrades if you’re not careful. 😛
This question is aimed to TRUE Elec Engineers, not fuse or wire directionality believers.
It’s an expression used by someone who still thinks there’s room for argument regarding aftermarket fuses and fuse directionality. A renegade. A refusenik.
How important is it for you to attain a holographic image?
Everything is relative. Obviously, whether a record or CD is in correct overall Polarity - which is what I’m referring to - depends on the mastering engineer, who cannot change whatever damage was produced by the recording engineer in terms of Pol...
Why Power Cables Affect Sound
phomchickThose that claim they can hear a difference in power cables provide no more meat than the skeptics. If there is a difference in sound, there must be a difference in the signal going to the speakers. I have never seen any proof of this. &g...
How important is it for you to attain a holographic image?
I like flamenco, too. Especially the pink ones.
How important is it for you to attain a holographic image?
I heard through the grapevine the Mercury Living Presence CDs are in Reverse Polarity as well, maybe the records, too. Everything is relative. Very good records that are in Reverse Polarity still sound pretty darn good and have good holography. Yo...
