Ayre QB-9 or Metrum Hex? Definitely, a Codex. It must be the best value between price and sound.B
Requesting Advice on Speaker Upgrade @Bomd, you still did great. I have never heard Kirksaeter, but knowing how serious German's take technology, I can only assume that they sound pretty good, probably very good. And, indoctrinating children with well reproduced music is a great way f...
Requesting Advice on Speaker Upgrade Wow, $100 bucks for a near $2k speaker? You really did score. The Stereophile review gave them a pretty good rec. Perhaps you should think about getting some subs in the future? They would be useful if you ever got the Quads, Maggies or Vandy's dow...
Requesting Advice on Speaker Upgrade You've gotten lots of great info. @bomd, are there any Vandy dealers near you? It would behoove you to give them a listen. Quad's and Maggie's are both fine speakers. If I weren't a Vandy fanboy, I would have them in my listening room, but since I...
Bose 901 Series ii Yes, I agree with roberjerman, a pair of Vandy's would be a move upwards. I only mentioned the McCormack's should you want to keep the Bose.I remember the 901's. They had a nice openness, but, as you said neither great highs or lows. A pair of Van...
Bose 901 Series ii I would say to first upgrade your preamp, then your amp. Those 901's suck a lot of juice. A good inexpensive route would be McCormack. A used RLD-1 and DNA-225 should give you more punch. The nice part is that Steve McCormack is still providing upg...
Tube Integrated Amp to Drive Floorstanding Speakers? @oblgny , I would scratch Audio Breakthroughs from my list. It is a shadow of its' former self.@mjb, Unless your are out on the twin forks, getting to Manhattan isn't exactly the hardest thing to do, especially if you want to audition before you b...
Tube Integrated Amp to Drive Floorstanding Speakers? Well, there is Audio Den on Long Island and a whole bunch of dealers in Manhattan.I would suggest contacting Audioconnection in Northern NJ. Johnny Rutan is one of the best dealers in the area.Bob
Gungnir sound before and after multi-bit upgrade? Yes, the multibit Modi and Bifrost were very, very good. I was hesitant to spend more, as they were so 'Right', but I found a Gungy for sale locally and I have to say that moving up the chain of Schiit yielded undoubted benefits. The only thing th...
Tube Preamp Recommendations? Though I know your budget is $1.6K, I still recommend an Atma preamp.I mentioned the UV-1, as it is pretty close to your budget. I have a MP-3.If you could swing it, I assure you it would be your last preamp.I suggest calling Ralph directly at Atm...
Subwoofer for classical music listener I say move it around to as many acceptable places in your room. Sometimes the most unusual spot makes the most difference.Bob
Gungnir sound before and after multi-bit upgrade? I am glad the OP liked the upgrade. I, too, have a Gungy and would like to upgrade it. Your posts have pushed me to do so.@kdude66 I admire your openness to buying Schiit again. (Pun intended).I started with a Bifrost Multibit, and got a Modi Mult...
Tidal free trial subscription @coppy,Thanks for the info. I'll give it a try.At OP, Did you ever get Tidal to reimburse you?B
Any love for the Belles Aria or other recent Belles amplifier? Why does the Belles website say they are 'coming soon'?B
Is there a real difference in sound between Media Servers (without built-in DAC)? I'd recommend the Bluesound in a heartbeat. The DAC in the Node 2 has gotten very good reviews, but if you want to go with a separate DAC, then a Schiit Gungy or Yggy would be my choice. Though if you absolutely need MQA then the Mytek would be a g... |
