looking for the best cd transport only, without dac
It would seem to me that the transport *shouldn't* matter because the myriads of high end dacs out there do their own jitter correction and clock management. I think they apply that functionality regardless of how "clean" the data is to begin with...
New Yggdrasil - First (and second) Impressions
or maybe the Oppo is really, really good- could you list a couple of the best recorded/mastered source recordings you used in the test?Hi @randy-11Not sure/clear if your post/question is directed at me specifically, but in any case, I’m reasonably...
GoldenEar vs Dynaudio vs Nola vs ProAc vs Everything else.
Golden Ear Triton Reference. Especially as you mention tight spacing. They have a sub-woofer bass control which works rather precisely, allowing you to dial +/- 7.5 db from center.
Soekris DAC1541 discrete R2R 27bit Multibit! Best Redbook DAC? and Native DSD.
@georgehifi FWIW, (likely not all that much), and from what I can gather (without extensive research), the Soekris has been well reviewed elsewhere and found "very clean, precise, and with a black background", but not in the same "class" as Yggdra...
New Yggdrasil - First (and second) Impressions
All are personal decisions on what you would like to hear and where you use it. All these micro descriptions between equipment gets tiresome, don't like don't buy it.@bacobits1 I agree in principal with what you are stating. However, often is the ...
New Yggdrasil - First (and second) Impressions
My philosophy is if there is not at least a tiny bit of sound improvement ( whatever you consider an improvement) when you first use, breaking in is not going to make things better for you. @aberyclarkI agree. However, as I've reported, I now do a...
New Yggdrasil - First (and second) Impressions
@devgclYou're welcome. In a sense, all sources are removed other than the one I happen to be listening to at the time. This is because I have other devices physically powered off, albeit they are connected to the Ygyy. I don't expect that I'll set...
Are there differing qualities of optical cable?
Blind faith in current scientific methodology leaves no room for discovery. And Blind Faith Live in Hyde Park June 7, 1969 SBD London, England is definitely worth listening too :)
Sony DVP-S9000ES sacd remote function
I had a DVP9000ES for many years. My ex took it :)  Anyway, if I recall, it played SACD upon inserting the disk. So I agree with tonykay that it should automatically identify that its been fed SACD media. Irrespective of the remote, the unit itsel...
Please Recommend Transport + DAC for $5K total
In my opinion, the Oppo players do not make a good transport for PCM audio. It uses two low grade clocks (25mhz and 27mhz I think). One is for CPU and the other is for HDMI interface. They are not good crystal clocks and are not even close to the ...
Oppo 105 vs 205
I recall reading that thoughts - in general - are very favorable for upgrading from 105 to 205. I never had an Oppo product until the 205, so I cannot provide comparison info from first hand experience.http://www.avsforum.com/forum/149-blu-ray-pla...
Please Recommend Transport + DAC for $5K total
gdhal: I’ve encountered a variety of opinions re: Yggdrasil. One common observation is that 15 days is an inadequate trial period, due to a very long burn-in time. What was your experience in this regard?@stuartk I’ll preface this reply by stating...
Dedicated Red Book CD player vs. "Universal" type players....
It is built to very high standards, includes an r to r ladder dac and sounds incredible. No doubt :)
Dedicated Red Book CD player vs. "Universal" type players....
Yeah, question is which Oppo now :) BDP105 or the newer versions that just came out If budget doesn't compel you to do otherwise, you want the UDP-205. Many owners of both unequivocally state the 205 is better sounding. And it should, given the mo...
Soekris DAC1541 discrete R2R 27bit Multibit! Best Redbook DAC? and Native DSD.
It says 1290euro in the first link. = $1500usdYes, I missed it. Can't see the forest through the trees I suppose. That price seems a bit "inexpensive".
