Subwoofer speed is in the room, not the box
@mijostyn Rel is only interested in selling as many subwoofers as they can. Their method of implementation is worse than silly.  Is it just REL you think is silly or are all sub manufacturers silly? I just came back from the Tampa audio show a...
Anybody going to the Florida International Audio Expo in Tampa?
I'm going on Saturday.
The Best Bass Ever? A Subwoofer Discovery
FYI... you can just take a rolled up piece of paper and insert half inside the port tube and extend the length of the tube. Open breathing, no restriction and no more one note bloat sound. Straws also eliminate the bloat note and allow for open br...
The Best Bass Ever? A Subwoofer Discovery
Great experiment! Anything placed in the port tube will disrupt the airflow and inhibit the resonance tuning from occurring. Altering the air flow in the port removes that 'bloated' one note bloom from occurring yet still allows the speaker full ...
Subwoofer speed is in the room, not the box
@sfgak  Dali Epicon 6   Exceptional!!  They are rated to 32.5hz with VERY high tech woofers. You cut them @70hz?
Preamp advice
@p05129   +1 Totally agree.
Subwoofer speed is in the room, not the box
@erik_squires  @phusis  Just for clarification, I used your suggested high pass method for several years described in the article below. I worked directly with Barry so I'm VERY familiar with it. However, as committed as I was, I never achieved ...
for streaming why not computer/galvanic isolation/DAC clock?
Streamers are just expensive computers. Mini Mac does a great job. I use Audirvana (highly recommended) to bypass the computers internal sound card using Exclusive mode. Works great!
This weekend, Feb. 16-18th - 2024 Florida International Audio Expo

Subwoofer speed is in the room, not the box
@phusis  most advantageous crossover point to subs typically sits somewhere between 80-120Hz handing over to the upper bass area. Subs sounding "boomy" are most likely badly implemented and/or badly designed/constructed or simply too small.  ...
Subwoofer speed is in the room, not the box
@erik_squires   The approach you are taking is have the sub do the least possible.  No.  I want the sub to do the most it can do in the proper range to produce a fast, punchy sound (30 to 50hz). MORE gain not less. (BTW...16hz has no place in m...
Subwoofer speed is in the room, not the box
@erik_squires  I’m not sure how much of that matters, but I can say, conclusively, that the high pass filters absolutely make the main speakers sound better. You're right. It does on some speakers. However, let's look at a 3 way speaker. The hi...
Subwoofer speed is in the room, not the box
A couple of experiences that I found to help. First is to identify what is fast bass? Where does this sound live? If you're looking for for bomb explosions and car crashes then 20hz is great but there isn't much of this in music. The deeper 'punc...
Adding a sub
Connecting a sub through the 'sub out' on a preamp is not the way to go.
Adding a sub
What ever you choose I would make sure it is able to be connected through the 'high level input'. It makes a big difference. Look at REL videos for explanation. Paul McGowen recommends this as well.
