Best 5-10 Rock Recordings? Hands-down contender would be the original Mo-Fi .5 speed Aqualung. Don't know about later reissues, but this one is spectacular.
The best speaker you ever heard? Mrtennis, I would generally agree with you regarding the notion of "the best" being somewhat vague when criteria cannot be quantified. Back in '72 I had the pleasure of witnessing Buddy Rich and his band in concert. Being a drummer myself I realiz...
Westwood One Radio LPs That's ok, I know you didn't. If they have been properly cared for they should sound excellent. Be advised that some LP's had a reference 1k tone at the start of each side, and an occasional locked groove between cuts (these were for DJ convenienc...
Westwood One Radio LPs The WWO LP's were pressed at Record Technology in Camarillo California, under my watchful eye. RTI was (and still is)the finest pressing plant in existence. The program content and recordings for WWO were of the finest caliber too, as I recall.
Westwood One Radio LPs We used to make those every week at RTI, along with American Top 40(Casey Kasem)and just about every other syndicated radio show before they all went satellite. I've got stuff going back to the 70's. I will check my basement stash for any WWO.
Brag About Your Vinyl Collection The Tull album with the pop-up is rare... to save money Chrysalis did not include it in subsequent re-issues. Poorly engineered recording however, even for the era.
Who LOVES their under $ 1000 table combination ? Just purchased an absolutely MINT Philips GA312 for $80.00. Vintage 1975; looks and performs as new. Fitted with New Grado Black (currently breaking in). Everyone who has heard it/seen it wants one, even my die-hard CD friends.
How did you get into vinyl? Dave - Neither one. I started a long and fruitful career in Quality Management due to my attention to detail at RTI back in the 70's. Have worked in aerospace electronics, precision machining, etc. Semi-retired now at 51. Don't know if there is en...
The best speaker you ever heard? I've always been drawn to the 89/11 radiation pattern, and their massive power handling. The only thing they ever lacked was extreme top end, which I have solved with the EMIT mod. I own the series 2; far and away the best of the series. Fellow hi...
The best speaker you ever heard? Hands down, it was a nifty little 3-way designed by Andrew Hefly (formerly of GAS). He designed the Granson of Ampzilla, and the Godzilla, among others. I've heard them all and nothing ever came close.
How did you get into vinyl? Dcstep - Virtually all of those Sheffield D2D's you own were a result of myself and lots of others back in the 70's and 80's... enjoy! Hope you have copies of S-10 (vol.1 and 2). Your collection would not be complete without these. Gaslover
How did you get into vinyl? It's all relative. A quick story... Back in '83 I took my Godzilla to the Vegas C.E.S., along with it's designer. He wanted to hear the Godzilla A/B'd against John Iverson's new Eagle 7A. A true war of heavyweights - amps AND designers. Within les...
How did you get into vinyl? At best, vinyl will (possibly) approach the status of depression-era glass, respectable as that is... maybe it already has? Our society has been transformed into a "data can represent anything" mentality. I can recall being fascinated by 78's when...
How did you get into vinyl? Even in the unlikely scenario vinyl were to make any sort of a comeback, there would be the unfortunate digital pollution somewhere in the recording or mixdown chain. The possibility of being able to purchase purely analog LP's on any mass market ...
How did you get into vinyl? The CD sampling rate chosen at the inception of the digital age was merely a compromise: some big name composer was asked how much music should a CD be able to carry and his answer was Beethoven's entire 5th symphony (or something to that effect).... |
