What brand outlet for dedicated lines?
I too like the Hubbells although mine aren't cryo'ed-- yet:>) I can also recommend the FIM 880 although more expensive at $55-60.
Who offers full remote functions in a tube pre
I agree with the Sonic Frontiers Line Series pre-amps. They have the most complete and highest quality remotes I've ever seen in high end pre-amps. The remote does not turn the pre-amp off, but puts it into standby. I own and love the Line 1 for m...
Inexpensive tweak
Rockyboy; A 10/10 and 9/10 would be a great trade for the FMS ICs, but I just couldn't do that to an A'Gon brother-- after the experience you've just been through you need them. You've got a couple of gems there. Thanks for the yuks;>)Zaikesman...
What is the best way to convert LP's to CD's?
I've used 3 different Pioneer CD recorders (at 1X speed) with excellent results, and presently use a Marantz CDR500 that is also excellent at 1X or 2X-- but more expensive than the Pioneers. Cheers. Craig
Suggestions for a tube preamp
The Sonic Frontiers Line 1 is an excellent sounding full featured pre-amp (no phono). I use the Line 1 in my 2nd system and have also used it in my main system very successfully. IMO, it is on par with the more expensive Line 2, and is even better...
Are CD clubs a good deal?
CD clubs are a good way to build a basic CD collection of popular titles at a pretty reasonable cost IMO. In years past I've belonged to both BMG and Columbia clubs and purchased a lot of CDs from them. As to sound quality, I've not noticed a cons...
Too many boxes
Rosstaman-- thanks for the warning. You may never sell anything via A'Gon again;>). Like Rgd, mine go in the garage rafters, and fortunately incoming and outgoing have been about equal, as the rafters are pretty full. Cheers. Craig
Inexpensive tweak
Rockyboy-- funniest thread I've seen in a long, long time-- laughed by butt off. You've obviously got a great sense of humor about an unfortunate incident-- thanks for sharing! Cheers. CraigPS: I'll give you $500. for your cat. I've got a tube pre...
Best Live Recordings:Performance and recording
Eva Cassidy "Live at Blues Alley" is a good recording, and Cowboy Junkies "Waltz Across America" is also good-- it's a compilation of live recordings on their last tour across the U.S. Both are favorites of mine. Cheers. Craig
Power Cord for Synergistic Research MCC
Bob; thanks for the post. I also have just upgraded to the MCC 3, and consider it an imprtant improvement over the original mainly because of the quality BNC connectors. I'm glad to hear of your experience with the upgraded SR power cords as I'm j...
Why are Infinities the Rodney Dangerfields of spe
Thesoundbroker explained the Rodney Dangerfield thing well re Infinity speakers in general, but if you really like the Infinities, buy them, enjoy, and don't let others opinions bother you. Good Luck. Craig
Real Standup Men Audiogon Members to the Rescue
Jtinn; sorry about your loss, and it really is guys like your friends Mike and Dale that truly make this place special. Kudos to them. Craig
Loreena McKennitt and Eva Cassidy
Warrenh; congratulations on your finds-- that's the best part of this strange hobby, IMO! Those are two of my favorite CDs. I have all of L. McKennitt'sCDs and there are no weak ones, but as noted above, "The Visit" and "The Mask and the Mirror ar...
Best mid-size speaker, cost no object
I own and can certainly recommend the Vandersteen 5s-- spectacular bass and great mid-range clarity. Have you auditioned them yet? I see the new 5A is now (or will soon) be available, but starting at about $14.5K. Good Luck. Craig
Do I need or want preamp tone controls
I agree, no tone controls, but I highly recommend a pre-amp with a balance control-- and there are some very good ones such as the Sonic Frontiers Line series, ARC LS25, Levinson, Bryston, Adcom, VTL, Herron, and others. Cheers. Craig
