NOS Tubes--Are they worth it? or accurate?
Hi Saxo; interesting thread: Paragraph by paragraph:1. I agree and prefer to not buy tubes from anyone except a reputable dealer, and am willing to pay the price-- some of which is for piece of mind.2. I found a type of NOS tube that sounds great ...
Who is your overall favorite guitarist?
I've seen Buddy Guy live and agree he's incredible, and I also like Ry Cooder. Not considered an "out front" musician, but over the last few years I have really come to appreciate the guitar play and musical talent of The Cowboy Junkies Michael Ti...
problem with levinson no 37?
Perhaps an odd solution, but I've had 2-3 CDs that my M37 wouldn't read, so I copied them to CD-R, and it then read the CD-R just fine. I have no idea why as Madrigal says that the 37 may not read CD-Rs, but mine has never failed to read one. I us...
What music rang in your New Year
The Fabulous Thunderbirds "Rock This Place"-- and it was good! Cheers. Craig
Real Stinkers
Cowboy Junkies "Open" was a big disappointment to me and I'm a big Junkies fan. I love all the rest of their albums. No Cheers on this one. Craig
What's under YOUR CD player?
Right now, my Levinson 37 transport and 360S DAC sit on a regular ol' MDF shelf. I bought two Townshend Seismic Sinks for them, but the Sinks shifted music to such an analytic character that it almost made my ears bleed. Fortunately, the Sinks wor...
Bought Wilco and Cowboy Junkies this weekend....
I love Cowboy Junkies music because of Margo Timmins haunting yet sensual voice-- especially on their many ballads, and also because of their unusual but very engaging band work. I also really admire Michael Timmins' guitar playing-- and he writes...
Vandersteen users; do you biamp?
Matchstikman; just for the record, bi-wiring and bi-amping are NOT the same thing, and I agree with Joeavid's post above. Also, as it's generally used in audio language, using subs is also not considered either bi-amping or bi-wiring.The Vanderste...
Vandersteen users; do you biamp?
Hi Match...; I bi-amped the Vand. 3Asigs with a pair of McCormack DNA 2 Rev As, and could not honestly tell the difference between one amp and two (but initially I CONVINCED myself that I could-- bad mistake). But then the DNA2 is a very powerful ...
Best of the Best Ofs
George Thorogood and the Destroyers "Anthology", a 2 CD set. GT definitely gives you your money's worth. Also, Best of Cowboy Junkies is a very good collection, but it was produced against their will and wishes. Cheers. Craig
Best upgrade ever: cryo outlet for my refrigerator
Psychicanimal; thanks for sharing your experience with your fridge. I gave up long ago trying to explain some of these things, but like you have discovered the value of good outlets-- and they all sound different, cleaning contacts, good contacts,...
Fav Consecutive Albums by An Artist
A favorite of mine, Singer and song writer Melissa Etheridge-- her first five albums:1. Melissa Etheridge, 19882. Brave and Crazy, 19893. Never Enough, 19924. Yes I Am, 19935. Your Little Secret, 1995I think I could also come up with a good list f...
4ohm vs 8 ohm......why one or the other.......
The impedence of speakers is the resistance to being driven and is measured in Ohms, and the resistance, or load is not constant over the frequency range. So, while my Vandersteen speakers have a NOMINAL impedence rating of 6 Ohms, the Vandersteen...
Three days until Christmas
Thanks Btstrg. Your thread expresses my sentiments well also, so Cheers and Happy Holidays to all of Audiogon. Craig
Burnin CDs? Sound loss/degration question
I can recommend the Marantz CDR500 Pro too. I can't tell the difference between the originals and copies when made at either 1X or 2X, and it's very easy to use too; MSRP $850. and street price about $675. I've used mainly Maxell or Sony CDR blank...
