Back with some more cables Tek and Bob; both good reports-- thanks. Mine is a little different perspective. I use Syn. Res. Phase II Active Shielded ICs, and they were excellent ICs even without the Active Shielding. But when I went to the "wall wart" active shields, I was ...
Enigma "Love Sensuality Devotion GH" Albert; I haven't seen the TV ads you mention, but if this music is on DVD-V also, I'd love to see it performed as I can route my DVD audio output through a decent 2nd stereo system. Craig.
How BIG is yours? Well......keeping it on topic; I have about 1000 CDs, and like you, I too want to try new equipment as well as find new music. Cheers. Craig
What are you doing with your tax return? On the few occassions when we've actually gotten a refund, it's automatically gone into our household account; which, BTW, does not include stereo equipment. If I could hog it all-- about $127. I'd guess, I'd put it in my account for a 2nd Levinson...
Sony SACD-1 vs ML39..Which is best overall? Nice comparison and review of the two components Jameswei-- thanks, and Cheers. Craig.
My quest: an integrated with great imaging. Help I agree with cfb and Reubent, good imaging is more a function of the listening room and speaker placement than anything else-- assuming decent equipment and wire(s). Your Sim Audio I-5 is a well regarded component. Good Luck. Craig.
Power Cords for Beginners: Synergistic v. Shunyata Hi Kevziek; Prior to making a choice, I auditioned 7 power cords in my system, to include the Syn. Res. Master Coupler and Sidewinder. I had the Master Coupler and Sidewinder in 20 amp as my McCormack DNA-2DX has a 20 amp input plug. Of the 7 cord...
What's the use of 20 and 24 bit DACs with CDs? The typical DAC chip of a typical mid-fi CD player does not actually out-put a 16 bit word length. Even the good DACs often only achieve 14 bit words at best-- this is with a 16 bit DAC chip. But when 20 to 24 bit chips are used, the DAC can more ...
Most Tedius Part of Audiodom Setup/Tweak/DIY ? Hi David; IMO even though speaker placement/location is a common task all audiophiles face, it is probably the most important in terms of yielding beneficial results. When we remodeled our house and I gained a bigger listening room, I spent 61 day...
I don't remember much, but I remember...... Nice thred Tireguy. In the late '50s, my two year older sister had pretty much commandeered my folks Zenith 45 RPM record player, and she bought Gene Vincent's "Be Bop A lula". I couldn'd get enough of that song, and have loved R&R ever since....
Did anyone else notice..... My experience has been like Sean's, ie I've gotten, by far, the best results by selling on Audiogon as compared to the other 3 audio sites he mentions. Still, I'm glad to see that Audio Review has made their ad prices more competitive. Cheers. Craig
Isolation accessories for heavy amp? My 90 lb. McCormack amp uses sorbothane feet at the front of the amp, and a single spike at the rear-- sounds contradictary, but it works very well. In your case, you could do this with vibrapods (or something similar) at the front and single or d...
Under speaker metal SPIKES ...what is the point ? Speakers vibrate when they play. Spikes "couple" the speaker to the floor such that vibrations are shunted from the speaker and into the floor. This usually has the effect of tightening up the bass, which makes the mid-range and treble more clear....
What would you do differently? Good thread Kirk. I enjoyed reading both the above posts, especially Sarah's-- thanks for sharing your experiences.I'm married and have "my own" semi-dedicated listening room in which I make all the decisions, and I consider myself lucky in this r...
Hobby, Hobby, Hobby? Good thread Ramstl, I've enjoyed reading the responses. For me, I've got to go with Swampwalker and Gallaine, it's a hobby to me. Having said that, I've sure had a hard time explaining the depth (obsessiveness) of my interest even to good friends.... |
