Rogue Audio Dark Upgrade.
@samzx12 The CBS 7729 was their low noise 12AX7 for instruments. From Brent Jesse’s page: "New Old Stock in original boxes. Low noise industrial version of the 12AX7, with heavily gold plated pins. These were made by CBS and then screened for prec...
Rogue Audio Dark Upgrade.
I’ve been mulling whether to send in my Rogue Stereo 100 for the "dark" upgrade, but seems to really not be worth it. I already have good tubes in the ST100. After many combos having found CBS 7729 (gain) 7730 (driver) to be fantastic. More punch ...
What phono preamp are you using?
@vinylvalet.  Sorry, yes I meant E83CC,they are the frame grid short plate Teslas.  Perfectly quiet and with the greatest amount of detail with the 12ax7 types I tried.  They actually sound just about identical to the Telefunken 12ax7.
What phono preamp are you using?
I have a Zestos Andros Deluxe 2.  To my ears it is fantastic, being richer in texture, more extended in treble and all around just better sounding than the Pass XP15 that preceded it (The Pass was no slouch).  Despite the tubes, the Zestos is very...
From Benz to?
"I went from the Benz LP to a Dynavector Te Kaitora Rua." I’m definitely interested in Dynavector, was thinking either Te Kaitora , or stretching a bit for the DRT XV-1s. Funky looking cartridges! I’ve never read anyone describe anything negative...
From Benz to?
Lots of good suggestions here, and lots of ways to blow through my bonus. : ) One aspect of the Benz LPS I enjoy is its "warmth" without obscuring detail, at least not overtly. The LPS is more detailed than my mid - fi(ish) digital setup (RME ADI-...
From Benz to?
"Sure, an Ortofon Windfeld Ti should do the trick and it will out track any benz. Top stylus, very quiet. " FWIW The Benz won't track the torture tracks on the Hifi News test LP, but this doesn't seem to be  a problem with real world music.  Thos...
Is EMI noise in electrical system inaudible?
While my RP7 pre amp was sent in for upgrade, I had in its place a Schiit Valhalla 2.   The Schiit picked up LOTS of EMI noise, perhaps due to lack of shielding.  When I moved my wireless mouse, you'd hear a high pitched whine and buzz, and when t...
Review of Rogue Audio RP-9 preamp
Ha, and Craig thanks for confirming I don't have a defective RP9!  I suppose it makes sense as the 12AU7 has a gain factor of 20, and the 6H30 is ~15.
Class A or Class D solid-state amplifiers (modern designs)
If I were in the market for a new amp, I'd definitely be looking at Atma-Sphere's new GaN class D monoblocks.  If there's anyone who will do class D justice, it's Ralph Karsten.  If they really give his tube amps a run for their money, then his cl...
Review of Rogue Audio RP-9 preamp
I’ve only had the RP9 up and running for a couple days, but here are my initial thoughts. Its resolution is uncanny. There simply is more detail from midrange on up, but is NOT "brighter". Ride cymbals seem to extend even further than my RP7 (with...
Which Preamp with JC5? Rogue Audio RP-9 or Parasound JC2
Regarding the Rogue Stereo 100, it is far from dark. I’ve had one for a few years powering Legacy Signature SE (before that Tannoy X8TF), and it is dynamic, transparent, extended and accurate in the treble, and accurate and tight basswise (for a t...
Review of Rogue Audio RP-9 preamp
Craig-- Thank you for the detailed, expressive, and well - written review of the RP9.  I have just sent in my RP7 to be upgraded to the RP9, and I wait with great anticipation!  I suspect it will be a even better pairing with my Stereo 100 and Leg...
Retipping Rega Apheta 3 Stylus By Andy@ Needle Clinic
Andy has become my go to for cartridge retip/rebuilds.  He does fantastic work and definitely has a quick TAT.  As I type, I'm listening to a Benz LPS he "re-cantilevered" with a boron and microline stylus.  Sounds as good as the original and trac...
Lyra Delos or Hana ML
@dodgealum Agree that Benz leans towards the lush side, but only slightly. I’ve owned three Benz (currently still on the LPS and love it) and they are rather flat in their response(e.g. not tipped up in the treble) so this could be perceived as ...
