is this the greatest live band of all time?
Milli Vanilli!

Turntable Mats: Rubber, Felt or Cork.
This thread is comedy gold.
What kind of listener are you?
Has anyone out there read Aaron Copland’ s What To Listen For In Music?I had to read it decades ago, back in high school music class. A really good read with the composer shedding some insights that are memorable. He broke down listening into diffe...
Tube Preamp with Solid State Amp?
Am I the only one who uses tubes BECAUSE of the extra detail they add? It’s a very 3D detail, very lifelike. I don’t find tubes warmer than SS (listen to the "euphonic error" on the original NAD 3020!), except for the warm glow of the tubes themse...
Why no interest in reel to reel if you're looking for the ultimate sound?
I was thinking about this recently, when I came across an ad for a Revox reel to reel. Recently, some of my LPs have sounded like I was in the studio, listening to the master tape. That liquidy but crisp high frequency sound, with a climate- and a...
Who buy PS AUDIO ?
I'm just a low budget guy, who buys most equipment used, and my two PS Audio products have been hit and miss. The miss is the 6.1 preamp. It was having some weird electrical problems, and I do believe it blew out the power supply of my tube amp. I ...
Whats on your turntable tonight?
Finally got an old ELAC Miracord idler up and running, so testing it out with my favourite piece of vinyl, Stravinsky conducting the Columbia Symphony, Rite of Spring.Might put on Reiner conducting Chicago, through Bartok's Concerto For Orchestra ...
Most recordings you own by a single artist, group, or composer
- Stravinsky (too many Rite of Springs. 28 at last count, most on vinyl. BUT I DON’T CARE!!!)- Bartok (and still don’t have a minty shaded dog Concerto for Orchestra)- Kinks (if you don’t know their work from the Banned in America phase - 1965 to1...
Who buy PS AUDIO ?
Just a low budget hifi guy here, but I like the old Digital Link III. But I am sure their 6.1 preamp damaged my tube amp. It was a nice sounding preamp, but I'm afraid to plug it in. And I recall the PS guys seeming reticent and worried about that...
Speakers that can reveal orchestral instruments' positions
Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, Yannick Nezet-Seguin, Philadelphia Orchestra, Deutsche Grammophon, Hi-Res FLA download (24 bit, 96kHz).In dynamic transient passages, like the subito fff in Spring Rounds, the timpani, bass drum and gong have a really ...
Ok guys
I have a second turntable next to my tube preamp, which the cat likes to sit on. The dust cover is good on the Rega so Skeeter the Cat doesn't step on the spinning record or tonearm when she saunters up to her heated electrode nest.
Benz Wood SL on TP16 or RB300?
Millercarbon, you might need to get some, you are sounding like a curmudgeon. 😉
Best LPs to Test Turntables
I use a couple of 60s Columbia LPs that I am very familiar with:Stravinsky conducts Rite of Spring, Columbia Symphony (really the New York Phil, but contractual limitations...)- a truck drives by the hotel where they recorded, at a quiet moment on...
Which area of components to spend the most $ on? Boy I was wrong all my life!
For low budget audiophiles like this none-too-well-heeled orchestral musician, I only spend my big bucks on MC cartridges and a good preamp (right now, Benz Micro Wood SL and Lukaschek PP1 MC preamp). A well-maintained Thorens with these component...
