Is going from a Ortofon Candenza Black to a Ortofon Winfield a lateral move?
It's Windfeld, not "Winfield". It is significantly better if your ancillary equipment are up to the task. You also failed to specify if it is the original version or the newer Ti. Beware of gray market sellers selling old stock Windfelds (original...
SW1X Audio Design DAC II Absolute Top Tier Ref NOS DAC
@wig Interesting. They must have changed the design. Here’s what they say now for the III:"Active I/V conversion via a single specially selected Silicium (or Germanium on request) transistor (with less than 10 Ohm input impedance) with the shortes...
SW1X Audio Design DAC II Absolute Top Tier Ref NOS DAC
I presently have the DAC II Special which trounces my AMR DP777. I liked it enough that I decided to ask Joe Cohen of Lotus Group-Slawa's US Distributor-to upgrade to a DAC III Balanced. Slawa says the DAC III Balanced gets very close to the ultim...
Reed 2gTonearm Torn Wire & rewiring HELP please
Only a doctor uses the phrase "proximal end". I assume he is not a neurologist. A neurologist would figure out the wiring.
Calling All (Any) Cartridge Alignment Experts in Western North Carolina
I have nothing at all against Yip/Mint. I always say this; There are so many variables-it all depends. A conical stylus needs a tenth of the exactitude of a replicant/fine line. There are many other ways to compromise one's analogue based system bey...
Calling All (Any) Cartridge Alignment Experts in Western North Carolina
This is why a USB microscope (with a small stand attachment) is so helpful. Once you have the alignment and focus of the microscope set, it’s very easy to confirm alignment of the cantilever and physical azimuth. Plus there’s no stiff neck, bleary...
Calling All (Any) Cartridge Alignment Experts in Western North Carolina
waltersalas OPI do not recommend the Mint. I have been down that road. It is very difficult to see the parallax implemented by Yip with his mirrored protractors and worse, it does nothing to guide you to proper azimuth or SRA or VTA. And, even if ...
Still Need Help
@ lenmc2964; Let’s get down to basics-to the very root of the problem-subwoofers and turntables do not play nicely with each other. You need to have a very large room or better yet, put the turntable in a different room. Most people don’t want to ...
A DAC to help overcome compressed music?
I definitely do not recommend it, but a preamp with a high 2nd order distortion profile like Primaluna will give you an added sense of depth/space but even then, compressed dynamics will still be present and it would be a case of the "cure" being ...
Reed 3P armboard mounting
Aesthetics are so so personal. For moi, I am not a huge fan of that gaping void on the Feickert and all similarly designed decks to allow for changing the P-S. Is it clever? Hell yes. The pivoting arm board leaf used by Woodsong does the same thin...
Reed 3P armboard mounting
Think of it this way btw-the specified P-S is meant to permit the user to align the widest variation of cartridges in terms of mounting screws to stylus distance.
Reed 3P armboard mounting
I do. I have two Reed 3P's. See my profile. My advice is to not sweat it. You do not need inserts, assuming an armboard of say 3/8's or greater of hardwood. As I have stated multiple times in this forum and only had agreement from the experts here...
Tonearm suggestion for Garrard 301 schedule ll oil bearing?
With an appropriate plinth you can use any tonearm on the market with your Garrard and if your 301 is meticulously serviced (and even modded), the better the tonearm the better the sound. Check out my profile and system. I have not tried every arm...
VPI Classic Setup By Brian Walsh
Brian my friend, if you're coming to Cleveland please stop by Columbus. My TD124 is going to need a new setup after a plinth change. I am happy to make it worth your while. For all of you who think you know how to "make your tt sing", give Brian a...
Just ordered a vpi avenger
As a managing partner of a law firm, I like to say that I just have opinions, I don't claim to be right. Thousands and thousands of audio enthusiasts have not just bought but enjoyed their VPI decks at all price points. Any given VPI deck can be m...
