VPI bearing oil/grease?
There is no definitive answer. Lithium grease, motor oil, trick oils (vdH, etc.), will all "work" to varying degrees. I have tried them all, and guess what? They all sound different. Your particular set-up will dictate which one works best. The th...
Changing from an XV1-S
Perhaps I am showing my age (53), but I remember a time, not that long ago, when it was generally recognized by most audiophiles (in my circles), and certainly by the audiophile press, that the establishment of a fairly-well agreed-upon descriptiv...
Changing from an XV1-S
Stickman 451: >>So, after all of that; which is the "better" cartridge, a XV1's or an Ortofon A90, or maybe a Grado The Statement? :)<<For me: 1.Grado The Statement 2.XV1 3.Ortofon A90For Dcarol (I would wager my Stax F-81's on this):...
Changing from an XV1-S
Dcarol, thank you for addressing my concerns directly. You wrote: >>The XV1-S was better than the Black in a lot of areas such as overall detail and 'togetherness' - the performance sounded like a whole and not just separate instruments play...
Changing from an XV1-S
Dcarol, forgive my bluntness, but I just don't understand the goal of your original post. You ask for suggestions for a cartridge change that will give you more "realism", but you seem to dismiss every opportunity given in the responses to your or...
Grado TLZ ???
Mosin, I did notice that the XTZ was not mentioned. I owned the XTZ also. I am not aware of a XTC; interesting. As I recall, the XTZ had an output of .5 mv, no? Very refined sounding cartridge. I ended up selling it because it did not have enough ...
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
Drewmb1, please read my post above on the subject. I strongly recommend that you first run the tonearm wire through a length of teflon tubing, then cover with the shielding braid. All tonearm wires are fragile, and copper braid can be very abrasiv...
Vinyl pops and clicks: Can they be eliminated??
About a week ago or so, a thread in this forum caught my eye. It was on a subject related to a piece of gear that I own. Having very little time at that particular moment, I quickly perussed the opening comment and a few of the responses. It wasn'...
Grado TLZ ???
From the Grado website:Grado Signatures -- the 8, 8M, 8MR, MCX, 8MZ, and TLZ
Grado TLZ ???
Lewm, there never was a "Signature" version of the TLZ, only a supposedly upgraded stylus assembly the "v", which is what the OP has. The TLZ was always part of the "Signature" line, which included the 8MZ, MCZ, TLZ, and XTZ.
Grado TLZ ???
OK, I just read your most recent post. I made my previous comments on the assumption that you had a "Gold" body. If the body that you have is silver and black, then you probably do have a full-fledged TLZ. It was probably packed in the box of a Go...
Grado TLZ ???
Very simple. You have a Grado "Gold" with a stylus assembly that has been upgraded to that of a "TLZ v"; they are interchangeable. My guess is that performance-wise, you are not quite at the overall level of excellence of a full-fledged TLZ, but f...
Add Bob Devices CineMag SUT to EAR834P Deluxe
I have not heard the CineMag, but own the EAR. If you did not follow this thread, check it out:http://forum.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/fr.pl?eanlg&1278350882&&&/SUT-shootoutPersonally, I would be careful about inserting another set of in...
Tube Phono Stage Help
EAR 834P for $900-$1000 more or less, used, is wonderful. A little on the juicy side (particularly in stock form), with very good PRAT. Will definitely warm things up.
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC?
When using MC's, I have never had any issues with grounding noise of any kind using the wire without any shielding. With MM's it gets trickier, and grounding noise can be a real problem. I solved it this way:The positive and negative runs of wire ...
