New to the game. Need some beginners advice.
I wish to EXPAND a bit further on my rather negative comments made previously.the real watershed moment for me was the day i bought a (used) pair of B&W 801 speakers. from then on, the music i had sounded much better - and in some cases WORSE....
New to the game. Need some beginners advice.
if you just seek tight bass and a coherent sounding system you can save a lot of money and time with NAD equipment. OTOH, if you want to transcend the limitsof the-commonly-thought-of-as-a-good-sounding-system it WILL take a great deal of research...
DiMarzio cables
i swear by Dimarzio power cords- not very expensive, but you wouldn't know it from the build quality- they use similar plugs you see on many of the more well known brands, and they're not too big or too skinny to use on source components or power ...
Why are modern arms so ugly?
i only have one real opinion regarding tone arm design- that it is easy to hold and place over the record, and clamps securely when not in use. i am too CLUMSY to be trusted with anything else...
Do powercords make a difference in sound?
assuming this is not a gag of some sort, i for one was IMPRESSED with the quality of the power cords that came with the equipment i bought. and those are the ones i used for MANY years while changing other things around. i always used a power cond...
Do powercords make a difference in sound?
No, don't even think about it!!

Do you understand your amplifier?
here are some terms i have tried to understand the meaning of over the years:0. when looking at printed circuit boards with hundreds of tiny resistors and various other devices, how do you design them? with a computer model?1. global feedback2. cu...
Rowlands
oh, i forgot to mention... i had at one time a Rowland Consonance preamp with Phono (a demo piece) that was a pleasure to own, especially when JRDG issued a new line stage module (just plug it in, no tools or solder necessary) that improved the so...
Rowlands
rowland equipment has a refinement in its build quality and its sound that is, at least to me, somewhat "european" in effect. you look at the beautiful internal layout of the new 625 amplifier on the web site, and then you go hear it on a really t...
From Pipedream to MBL 101e, any thought?
ONE pair of ML-33's should be more than enough especially if you have a 220Voutlet feeding them. but would the "tonality" of ML amps affect the speaker in a negative way? one can only try the combination out IN YOUR ROOM to seeif it works out or n...
Aerial 20T / Eggleston Savoy
as far as i can tell from the andra-3 specs the improvement would be found in the use of a pair of new carbon-fiber midranges.they should be faster and more transparent than the morel drivers in the andra-one and A-2. BUT at the same time, the and...
My love of music is killing me.
i work in a hospital and being really ill is another world so detached from the one outside. there is only one answer (from a secular standpoint) that i have found after witnessing a thousand recoveries and a thousand deaths- give yourself permiss...
Aerial 20T / Eggleston Savoy
the Savoys are MUCH larger than the aerial speakers- the andra's would make a better comparison. my room is 20 X 14 and the andra's were more than adequate inevery department. i have to admit i was using transparent reference-MM wires throughout w...
Amazing ''Overachieving'' products...your pick?
hey i got one- DELUXE JUSTARACKS by Michael Green- if you don't mind the cheap look or denting and scraping the finish much tooeasily, these preceded the Salamander racks that are made today (which look much nicer but...) ANYWAY, the deluxe shelv...
