Tubed preamp suggestions?
I have not seen the CAT mentioned here, one of it´s nice features is the phono stage.Other route considering atention is a First Sound preamp with an outboard phono stage.Fernando
$800 Cartridge Shootout and Upgrade Path
Hi Guys!I own a Denon 103r cartridge bought at Audiocubes2.com, service was fantastic and the cartridge was delivered to my office just in time and at the agreed pricing.I don´t feel the urgent need to go for something more, eventhough I would lik...
Classe vs McIntosh
The Macs will give you a sense of more power (filling the spkrs demands)and a little more bass punch and drive. The Classes are more transparent and a tad more of a resolution ability. It is a matter of sonic preferences (music, volume levels, roo...
Looking for views on bi-amping
Have heard some active and passive bi and tri amp setups, sorry to say that chances of failure are high due to the many reasons posted above (gain mismatches mostly). The only route I would consider is horizontal bi-amp using the same amps, otherwi...
Are Preamps necessary?
Agreed with Xiekitchen... also with JW94055. You dont need to invest huge ammounts of cash to arrange a nice system, even at the price you paid for your current and respectable Yamaha gear, assuming it is a classical Natural SOund series and not s...
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE
Musicubed: I also own a Denon 103r, please keep us posted so we can learn from your experience with the cartridge.Fernando
Speakers to hang on to for LIFE
Lafolia: Congrats for your Model 8. I also had that amp with my Avatars and really, you are cooking with gas !!!!.Don't bother too much with the spkr wire setup, just ask your dealer to work for you a tri-wire config (three pairs of wire for the s...
merry christmasand happy new year to all of us
Not sure if I am in the same track as your question, but I prefered the sound of my Eclipses biwire-ed, the rest of my system runs um-balanced (single ended-RCA) since my sources has nobalanced output.Fernando
Please Compare these mid 1990's SS amps.
Have not heard the 300, if you push me hard I would go for the Forte (Class A), but please consider room size since it is not that powerfull.Fernando
Pre-amp recommendations for Bryston 4B SST
The Audiolab 8000 is a great preamp (I had it just for its phono stage section), I would go for the Bryston preamp and maybe getting an equalizer since you listen to dance music.Get the eq first and maybe you will be saving some cash.Fernando
Adding an equalizer
An equalizer will bring additional circuit paths to the stream (normally not of the best quality), so additional distortion and lack of transparency will arrise.Proper speaker setup and a balanced system will reproduce music nicely, you won't feel...
Better SS amp than my Bryston?
I own a Pass X250, will bring additional speed and dynamics to your system, as well as a more liquid midrange and definied highs.A used Gryphon amp (DM100, Anthileon) will also bring you some steps up.Fernando
what do I upgrade?
Nice System !!If you are really feeling the upgrade bug, I would change the Krells.COnsider Pass Labs, Gryphon, GOldmund or ... Naim (works great with Wilson)Fernando
Will an entry level tube preamp help w/ B&K ST-140
It is my understanding that both Vandys and B&K could be placing your in the Yang-side of the audio resproduction spectrum (read: SOFT), why not try a passive preamp?, (could work great in your setup adding more resolution, transparency and sp...
Tube magic in solid state?
I have found great musical reproduction thru Gryphon gear, one really forgets if it is a tubed or a SS design. I have found some great options in the used market for early Gryphons like the DM100, Anthileon or even the Tabu line.Fernando
