Is there a SS amp that can offer tube bliss? I've been using tube amps for 36 years, and the closest solid state amp, that I have listened to for a length, is the Parasound Halo amps. I've only listened to the big monblocs, so these would be my choice, instead of tube amps.
Spindle oil When I purchased my Oracle MK4, there was no bearing oil sent with it. I contacted Oracle, and the brother of the designer, who now runs the company, told me that Mobil 1, 5W30 synthetic, was the oil I should use.

Earmax Pro tube roll....help a lost soul The sonics, you are describing, will not be found, with Telefunkens, and especially Mullards. These are rich, warm, lush sounding tubes. With the richness, and warmth, fast transients, are not part of the package. Both have a soft bass, the Mullar...
Best 12at7 tube?????????? The best 12AT7, I ever heard, was an RCA. Most RCA's sound lousy, to me. This just happened to be a pair, that was done right,(or wrong). They were the exact same construction, and vintage, as the others, that I thought sounded lousy. I still have...
inexpensive record cleaner Hi, Want an inexpensive record cleaner? This is what I use. A 5 gal wet/dry vac. Take the head, with the rubber squeegie inside, and remove the rubber insert. Take a piece of foam, or sponge, large enough, to cover it, and come up the side, a litt...
changing tubes in my phono causes hum ? Some 12AX7, are sensitive, to the electronic fields, that are present in gear. 12AX7's were regularly shielded, in most vintage gear, for this very reason. If the tube, is not defective, then maybe you could try a tube shield, that you can ground(...
Phono Box Advice Needed I used a Graham interface box( I think Cardas made it), with my Graham arm, for years. I purchased a Cardas Neutral Reference phonocable, so I no longer needed it. I do not know, how much impact, it made on the sound, but I do know, it allowed me ...

What's next after my 300B Rega Turntable Shasta, not all dealers are cads. Some are very much interested, in giving the customer great sound. Though some are not, but a blanket comment such as that, is not fair, to those who truly care. |
