The Sacred Ritual of Vinyl: A Return to Mindful Listening
The only problem I have in 55+ years of analog listening (not on a console system) is setting up the new cartridge.  Otherwise, today, I plop a record into my Kirmuss ultrasonic cleaner with distilled water, 5 minutes later (typically), remove it ...
Anyone wear gloves to handle vacuum tubes?
@larryi  Then the best thing to do is occasionally use a microfibre towel to dust and/or remove detris/oils on a tube, new and used.  I'm just not into that and my custom listening room is filtered from most dust-maybe once annual cleaning.
Anyone wear gloves to handle vacuum tubes?
@wownflutter +1 same here, don't tube roll and just test tubes every few years.
And the biggest influence on sound quality is...
With my near SOTA set up in a custom built listening room, with 61,100 CDs/LPs/78s/R2R recordings, the quality of the sonics vary but have improved to such an extent that fewer than 10% of my recordings sound less than good and enjoyable.  Even am...
Have you reached your end point with this addictive hobby?
Since of January 2024, I reached my endpoint with near SOTA equipment= Von Schweikert VR9 SE MK2 new foundation sub amps and Masterbuilt wire Westminster Labs REI mono block amps Lampizator Poseidon DAC (pre-amp everyone says could be even bett...
A life sentence!!!
Von Schweikert VR9 SE MK2 upgraded with Masterbuilt Ultra cabling and Foundation subwoofer amps.
Upscale Audio is up front with customers
I've only had positive experiences with Mr. Deal and his sales associates.  I've purchased NOS tubes and some items.  I've asked concerning higher end speakers and cartridges.  Always received reasoned answers.  Upscale is upscale in fact of custo...
One box solution
Dutch & Cutch 8C-good choice. I'm 69 and have gone the opposite of the $1+ million system, creating a room and system that one can enjoy on a 10' wide sofa, standing, laying down on the floor.  It is the speaker that accomplishes most of that...
Unipivot tone arms
I had a cartridge trial back in the 1970s which definitely had a mismatch with the tonearm as it couldn’t track any warp. Prior to using a gimbaled arm, my Brooks Berdan highly modified SME IV from 1989, I used unipivots. I still use an Ultracraf...
Why did you purchase the equipment you have and what do you like most about it?
Von Schweikert VR9 SE Mk2 new foundation amps and Ultra Masterbuilt internal cabling.  I've heard maybe 1000 audio systems at shows, dealers and homes.  The Ultra 9 and 11s were magical with my LPs and CDs rendering the performers in front of thei...
Does anyone listen to the radio anymore?
95% of the time in the car.  Mostly news/talk radio, KUSC Metropolitan opera and assorted new classical music releases (much like streaming).  Otherwise, no, just LPs, CDs, 78s, R2R and a few cassette tapes not yet transferred to digital.  Very ve...
Which inexpensive speaker cables...
Best inexpensive cable-Belden digital SPDIF cable.  Used until I receive my Westminster Labs Ultra carbon fiber AES cable.  $25 for a true 75 ohm cable.  I've also used Belden XLRs previously on EAR equipment.  My friend and I can vouch for the di...
Warm sounding phono cartridge
@lewn Do you have many 1950s and 1960s pressings?  I know audiophiles who have less than 100 LPs and SOTA audio systems, all repressings or mint original hot stampers.  I began collecting/listening when I was 3.  I had 3,000 LPs by 18.  I have inh...
A cable too perfect?
System matching is critical.  I never had a cable mismatch wherein the sound was only acceptable at low volumes and not at high volumes.  Until 2023, I only used tube gear.  Now I have solid state amps and phono pre-amp.   I can attest to the vas...
Replace tubes yearly?
As a blanket statement, that's stupid advice.  Tube rectifiers last 10,000+ hours.  Miniature tubes usually last 5,000 to 10,000 hours in most equipment (not necessarily AR gear).  My subminiature tubes are rated for up to 100,000 hours. Only outp...
