Your advice on a good cable I'm a big believer in the whole Analysis Plus line, which is also very reasonable. For budget ICs the TMC white and Yellow ICs offer enourmous value, but are quite stiff and don't work well if you have to move or swap components regularly.
cambridge or nad preamp I think the advice of going used is VERY good. If you go with something like Bryston, there is a fully transferable 20 year waranty so you can get a used one without much worry. Look for an old 11B. My first separate pre-amp was a 0.5b that while ...
Exactly what is oversampling? I recntly changed from a Bel Canto DAC 1.1 to a Muse Model 296 and though both are true 24 bit 96 kHz upsampling DACs they by no means sound the same the Bel canto sounded very good, but the Muse is truly amazing. In addition to the imaging, detai...
1700 on a whole system-could I have done better? For the money, it would be hard to beat the integrated amp you bought, but ultimately that will probably need upgrading.
Upgrading my NAD C340. The Musical Fidelity amps are beautiful. I would opt for the A300 given your budget ($1500 new and can sometimes be foun for $1000-$1100 slightly used), it is a wonderful sounding integrated amp and a real step up from the A3 integrated.
Adapters for RCA I assume you are using a BNC coax cable. These are in many ways better than RCA coax cables (both are used to transmit identical 75 ohm s/pdif signals, but BNC is a better shielded connector). While RCA digital cables are more common ALL of the be...
need new cd player-budget is tight this winter I also have an Arcam Alpha 7 and I upgraded with a good DAC. the 7 is a great transport, because it was made for the Alpha 9 (that upgrade just changes the DAC. You could get a great older DAC like a Muse Model 2 w/ Besel Filter option or a Model ...
Should Speakers come first in a gradual upgrade? I agree with the DAC change suggestions. With your system the time to change the speakers and add subs would be a little later. If you really want to get apiece you can keep in your ultimate system I think you should be looking at higher end DACs....
You were pleased with AP Oval 9 but you upgraded.. I have a biwire pair of Oval 9s and 12s and love them. I have no thoughts of upgrading and do not find them bright (just neutral and wonderful sounding) in my system.
Rega Planet---Upgrade time--Which way to go? I think going to the Arcam will give you a really big boost, or else go to an outboard DAC.
"Pictures From Exhibition" best recording? The Richter recording is by far my favorite even with the sound quality limitations. Richter's recording was, in fact, a big reason why the original paino piece began to be played again in the West.
good silver IC's to audition? I second the Analysis Plus silver oval
Krell vs. Plinius My father has the older Krell KAV integrated and I have the Musical Fidelity A3cr pre/power combo. Needless to say I agree with the other two posters for $2100 or even for the full $3000 for new, the Musical Fidelity produces amazing results.
1.0 vs. 1.5 Meter Digital Cable There is alot of contradictory info about this question, but as best I can gather it is for toslink cables that many people experience gains with 1.5 or 2meter cables. They claim that this has to do with stabilizing the early reflections of the li...
The best CD player new or used for under 500 I am using an Arcam Alpha 7se as a transport. I have seen these used for around $250. They have very fine transports because they were made to be upgradable to the Alpha 9. That upgrade changed only the DAC meaning that the Alpha 7se has the ident... |
