life span/failure rate of filter capacitors?
+1 kikanki  If you want the amp to last, replace the capacitors. Have someone use higher temperature rated caps whenever possible. I have amplifiers that use components that are unobtainable so preventative maintenance is a requirement for me.  
Need a good reputation repair shop for Mitsubishi DA-P20 preamp.

Solid core handles more current for a specific gauge. I would choose solid core.

I usually go 4 times more power for the low end. Active crossover to get the most benefit. I also bypass the internal passive crossover. Yes tube or class A for high end.

Absolutely no ideal power cord length! You want a cord long enough to connect everything easily, that’s it. Typically the shortest is best for high current devices like conditioners and amplifiers.
