What cartridge for a VPI Super scoutmaster/JMW9 ? There are three cartridges I have heard with this table. They are the Lyra Dorian,Dynavector 20XL and Denon 304. In my opinion can't go wrong with any of these. But if push comes to shove I would go with the Lyra Dorian. I felt the Dorian was the ...
Keep Krell KSA-300 or go with PS Audio Classic 250 Stick with the Krell and as a preventive measure have it serviced by Krell if it has not been serviced before. It is very near the service time window now. Preventive maintenace is far less costly than a major problem down the road.
What tonearm is recommended for the denon 103r No kidding, if we could get Bill at Audiofeil and Larry at Hollywood Sound together we would be in tonearm heaven. Nice to have these guys around.
Review: Sonographe SC-1 Preamplifier Very nice to hear that other members have embraced this venerable performer from CJ. And when the company remains in business makes the purchase more than worthwhile, very nice to have factory service on vintage gear from the folks that made it.Th...
What tonearm is recommended for the denon 103r Having just found some old brochures from my archives, the Denon tonearms from the mid 70's were designed with the 103 series of cartridges. Tonearms are DA 304,305,307,308,309,and 401. Extraordinarily difficult to find today. These were s-shaped ...
What tonearm is recommended for the denon 103r According to the Cartridge/Tonearm data base, you will need a tone arm with an effective mass of 25 to 30 grams. The database list only two tonearms with that effective mass the Acros Lustre GST 801 and the Dynavector 501 tone arm. Although there ...
Turntable selection advise After 50 years in this hobby business and have owned far more turntables than most on this site. My opinion is go with VPI, Sota or Rega. These offer a clear upgrade path when time and resources are available. The VPI and Sota are made in the U.S....
Dynavector, Denon or Lyra Cart on Roksan Nima? I agree with Bill here, take his advice. For what it is worth forget about Lyra, because when you need them, (A) they don't answer e mails, (B) Don't return phone calls. In fact I was so pissed I damn near bought a ticket to RMAF just to lay into ...

Review: Benz Micro MC Gold Cartridge Since the initial review a couple of things were mentioning. the preamp now is a Coda 01p and the loading values have been changed to the 200 to 47kOhm setting. The cartridge now has all that I am looking for. The sonics are truly amazing for an e...
Review: Project 1 Xpression Turntable After further research the only Denons compatiable with the Project tonearm are Denon DL305, DL1000A, DLS1, DL 304 and DL 103S. The Audio Technica OC9 is not recommended as well. The Benz Micro Gold however is recommeded. Also the Lyra Clavis I ha...
Review: Project 1 Xpression Turntable Because of the weight of the Denon 103R it may not fit. Unless you have the optional counter weight. The standard counter weight is for 4 to 6 grams of cartridge weight. Overall I would recommend the Benz Micro Gold, which weighs in at 5.7 grams a...
