Have you "lied" to yourself?
I totally agree with your point. Thanks.
Have you "lied" to yourself?
I'm enjoying the posts, but I think most everyone has gotten off topic. In typical audiophile form, folks are telling stories about how THEY can tell the difference in upgrades, how they appreciate subtle changes, etc. Can’t people get off the gol...
Hate to ask......
One point that hasn't been mentioned is the effect of having extra (idle) speakers sitting in the room when trying to enjoy 2-channel sound. I saw a web page once (from a local audio shop) that described the following phenomenon:Play a 2-channel r...
Have you "lied" to yourself?
Thanks Mezmo. I appreciate your candor. This thread isn't meant to make people humiliate themselves or anything, just to show us that it's not THAT rare to want to hear differences after dropping some cash (even if you have to struggle).
Daisy-chain an amp or not
Don't starve your amp but running through another device. Just leave it plugged in and on. Some amps supposedly benefit from keeping them on all the time (see the threads). If your preamp (and amp) has a 12 volt trigger you can use this approach t...
Help w/ beginner s room treatment
Thanks to all for your responses (especially Abstract). I do, however, have a couple of clarifying questions:1) what's the difference between and absorber and a diffuser (both in purpose and in the actual item one would use)2) what does it mean to...
room treatment 101, please
Thanks, Lev. I really appreciate the advice. I'm going to give him a call (though I live in Washington, so he won't be able to come out to the house...).
Best Pre-amp for Bi-amping?
I'm in the same situation, and I'm currently using Y adapters in my biamp setup (passive biamping, by the way). I guess I'd get some improvement with an active setup (though I'm a bit worried about altering the internal crossover that was built pr...
heard of Audio Refinement P-2 DSP?
Actually, this is the first a/v pre/pro that A.R. has put out -- so the 1st version will include the 6.1 and bass mgt., etc. Maybe he told you to wait for the second version in case there are any kinks in this first stab at a/v.
best used 5.1 dd/dts pre/pro?
I'd like to spend no more than $1200 on the used piece. Sorry for omitting that.
does linking two cables degrade sound?
thanks guys. I got some suggestions from posting this same query in the amp/preamp postings. I'm going to feed the a/v preouts into one of my stereo preamp inputs. it's not a perfect solution, but i avoid switching cables around; now i will just f...
How to switch stereo and a/v preamps
Thanks Patmatt. Perfect explanation; totally clear. I figured this out yesterday and I am now doing exactly as you've suggested. I agree that the way to go is with a passive through-put, but for now, this will do just fine.
Help with two preamps and amp connection
Thanks, Sedond. Slingshot's earlier post led me to a thread that made a similar suggestion as yours. I think that is the way to go. I appreciate the help.
Is sound "additive"?
As much as I enjoyed your posts, I am glad that I asked something that did not have a simple answer. I was not asking for a particular reason -- just because the quandry arose in my mind. I have no experiment planned.
Is sound "additive"?
Thanks guys. That helps.
