Satellite or CATV? One issue that I've yet to see addressed in this thread is compression. Dish and DirecTV may not, in some cases, look as good as a CATV signal if the level of compression is high for the digital signal and the analog/CATV signal is of high quality...
Video shielding for rear projection TVs? I got my TV and things are fine. I have about a 10 inches on either side of the set and no magnetic interference. Thanks for the advice. By the way, in the interim when waiting for the new TV to be delivered, I took the old set out of the room -- ...
Name this Preamp I think the new Anthem pre may work for you
Totally Confused about home theater How about a reasonable middle ground, Audiotomb? One does not have to abandon HT all together to have a satisfying all-in-one system. Just understand that there are compromises to be made and you need to prioritize what you want when selecting com...
MC-1 or Ref 30 I'd advise against the Denon receiver as a processor. I did this for a while w/ separate amps and a separate 2-channel pre-amp for music. When I got my B&K ref 30 I noticed a HUGE difference from the Denon on soundtracks (and the dolby pro-log...
A Love Supreme When I said "can anybody help me out", I meant "can anyone back me up here by agreeing?" I was just wondering how others felt and was also hoping to spur folks to sit back down and listen if it had been a while. It's like an old friend that warms ...
Help with bi-amping I disagree that using two 100 watt amps or two channels of a 100 watt ampis the same as a 100 watt amp. As evidence, often times one will see that an amp can be bridged to provide (at least) double the power of the two channel mode.
Musical or scientific/technical background? Doug28450: it is "grammar", not "grammer". I personally have no musical training, but have always loved to listen to music. My Ph.D. is in economics though I do like to read about the technical side of audio as a hobby.
outlaw 950 pro vs B&K ref 30 I think it is a bit early speak about the outlaw pro, as it is just reaching the beta test phase. From their press releases it sounds like it will have all the newest sound modes. I was considering waiting for one long, long ago when they mentione...
help jitter, toslink, and DVD question Supakit -- I'm a little confused here. Monarchy claims that "the DIP's circuit is compatible with all S/PDIF audio signals from 16 to 24 bits at frequencies up to 96 kHz, including Dolby Digital and DTS. In fact, the new and improved lock function...
Home theater system only plays Pro logic, no digital or DTS 1) be sure to go into audio set-up on the dvd's menu and select the 5.1 soundtrack2) try disconnecting your DVD analog out cables and just use digital until you can lock in on the 5.13) try to find a way to display the output going from your DVD p...
home theater for 3000 65 w/pc with all channels driven -- pretty low for most receivers today (though Outlaw rates the power pretty conservatively). I'd be sure and get some pretty efficient speakers if you get your heart set on the Outlaw.
switch box degradation? Jctubes: When you say “will provide a nominal load with additional speakers added in parallel” what type of load are you referring to? Won’t the receiver see a 4-ohm load in each channel if each channel is pushing two 8-ohm speakers. Am I missing ...
Acurus ACT3 vs B K Ref 20 In terms of the bass management issues, while I consider the B&K's to be extensive, it is not 100% flexible. That is, one cannot choose the crossover frequency for each set of speakers (say, if one wanted 40hz for the fronts, 80hz, for the cen...
Acurus ACT3 vs B K Ref 20 I have the B&K reference 30 and have not heard the Acurus. It has 2 sets pass-through inputs (a bypass input and DVD-Audio inputs). The ACT-3 used to be notorious for hiss, and I've also seen some unreliability reported at audioreview.com. I t... |
