California Audio Show-why I hate audio conventions
I concur about the big Music Lovers room. Just one correction: they had Wilson Maxx speakers in there. They often have the same setup in their big room in Berkeley as well. Also agree that the Electrocompaniet room was very good sounding. Other st...
Sonus Faber Cremona vs. Cremona M again, I know
Rugby,Our tastes may differ, but I think your observations are spot on. I don't know if I would go so far as to say the original Cremona was "boomy" but it certainly had a softer sound than the M. I will say that my Auditor Ms can be made to sound...
Sonus Faber Cremona vs. Cremona M again, I know
I have the Cremona Auditor M, so take my comments with that personal bias. The M series, to me, balances the things that SF has always done well in terms of tone and texture, but balances those out with a nice dose of neutrality. I think the M ver...
Musical Fidelity X-Can V8 DAC/USB Quality
I have both the K702 and the X-Can V8p. The K702 is not everyone's cup of tea. I think you need to know that going in. The X-Can V8 is a fine headphone amp with plenty of power and a pleasant tonal balance. It's also pretty handy to have both the ...
Brinkmann Bardo, Raven 1, SME 10
I've lots of listening experience with the SME 10, but with the standard Model 10 arm. I've also heard the Bardo. The SME, in my opinion, suffers from price inflation--the same SME 10 sold for $6K just a few years ago. That said, I do like that 't...
Musical Fidelity fine-tuning service
Unsound, I agree that one year isn't generous in terms of length of warranty. What I thought you meant that they'd been unreliable about covering original owners while within the warranty period. Obviously, this is something to take into considera...
Musical Fidelity fine-tuning service
For Unsound,Just curious where you're getting the impression that MF's warranty coverage has been found lacking. I'm not disputing this--I have no impression because I've never had to get anything covered under warranty and my M3 is long out of co...
Musical Fidelity fine-tuning service
I have a Nu-Vista M3 that I intend to keep forever. This makes the tune-up extremely interesting to me, but I'm leery of sending mine halfway around the world. I don't see why this service wouldn't be available via MF's distributor--surely warrant...
Sonus Faber Auditor M - Your Thoughts
I have the Auditor M as well and chose them over the DeVore Nines, Harbeth Super HL-5 and Dynaudio C1s. All are fabulous speakers and a lot will come down to personal taste. I felt that the Auditor Ms imaged the best of these speakers. The Harbeth...
Simon Yorke new table....
I've heard the S10 quite a bit now because I'm friends with the local dealer and it's a fantastic table. To my ears, it doesn't sound like anything. Completely neutral as far as I can tell. Alas, it's way too far out of my budget. But the S9 might...
What's the biggest spade you can buy?
Forget it. I have a Nu-Vista as well and there is no spade that will fit those binding posts. The largest spade I know of is Analysis Plus and even those did not fit. I just use spade to banana adapters.
Wilson Sophia 2 vs Revel Salon2--fair comparison?
The Sophia2 is a no brainer. You already know you like them and that's most of the battle right there. By the way, anyone who has spent sufficient time with both the Sophia and Salon will tell you that the speakers don't really sound alike. As for...
What Integrated Amps have the sonics of Separates?
The Luxman integrateds are very nice and I've heard them often at my local dealer. If I was looking today, I'd seriously consider one.
onkyo 805 vs 806
Whichever receiver you end up with, please make sure you give it plenty of breathing room. These things run very hot--I have a fan plugged into one of my 805's swtiched outlets to provide extra cooling. Without the fan, I'd sometimes lose video ou...
What Integrated Amps have the sonics of Separates?
Just pick up a used NuVista M3 and be done with it. It's already been mentioned a couple of times in this thread, but it bears repeating. I've had mine for years now and will continue to have it for more. For the used prices today, it's a screamin...
