What amp would you suggest for Magnepan MG12s
Get yourself a used Krell 300iL. This will give you 200-400 watts and power the Maggies correctly.
New Cartridge = right channel distortion
I believe that your anti skating is set incorrectly. That is it is too high. If the traking force is 2.0 grams for your cartriage your anti skating will be around 0.25-0.4 grams or less. The blank disk method is not the best way to set the skating...
What's in your Wadia iTransport system?
What are you using as a digital cable between the Wadia and the Cal Alpha Dac? Maybe this is where the brightness is. Try a few different digital cables first before you get rid of your Rotel stuff.
Mcintosh MA2275 what's better
Before you do any tube rolling, what have you done to improve the acoustics of your room? What have you done as far as speaker positioning? Changes here may give you massive improvements in sound quality at practically no cost.
New TT-- new problem
1. It takes hours for the cartridge to break in. At least 40 hours or more. Let the cartridge break in with the tonearm parallel to the record. 2. Set you tracking force to the middle of the recommended weight range while the cartridge is breaking...
Moving up from Marantz 2325, to new amp and preamp
Hi,Try upgrading your power to the Marnatz 2325 first before getting rid of it. I would suggest that you get a Shunyata Hydra 2 or a MIT Z Duplex Super. See if this gives you the improvement that you are looking for before you spend any real money.
RMAF 2009 Analog Report + Meet and Greet
I'll be there. It should be fun.
Martin Logan Ascent Owners... Tell me about your..
I have owned Ascents for about 3 years. I bought mine used. The ascents are an underrated speaker that are wonderful sounding. The bass takes 50-100 hours to break in completely. Right now I am using an ARC VT-100 Mk III to power the speakers and ...
Most beneficial change .
Your room is too small. The reason that you cannot tap you toes to the music is that the wavelengths of mid bass and low bass are too long and are not supported by your current room dimensions. You could try adding some bass traps. This might elim...
Finding a little warmth from Benchmark1 USB DAC
If you are using a USB cable to link the Benchmark from your computer the USB cable is the problem. Spend $29 and get a one or two meter run of Belden Gold series USB cable. This will solve your problem. The Belden Gold series is one of the few US...
RF interference through my phono stage.
Hi Chris,Go to Wikipedia and look up ferrite cores. The graphics shown in the writeup show how the ferrite core is used. 1. Do you need a core on the power cord? Probably not. The key is to add one core at a time and note the effect on the sound. ...
RF interference through my phono stage.
This is a common problem on many phono stages. The signal is most likely coming through the air as Almarg stated. One simple and effective solution is to attach a ferrite core to the ground wire between the turntable and the phono preamp stage. Yo...
How to order Wally Tools...
Don't order from Wally. He has been nothing but trouble. If he is in business he should act like a business man and deliver your order in a prompt and timely manner. Wally does not do this so don't waste your time and effort.
VPI Scout owners, do you use....
Upgrading the power cable to the motor will make a small improvement. I have tried the PS audio cable (Statement) and it makes a difference. However the difference is small. You will get a bigger improvement using the Shunyata Venom or Diamondback...
Audio Research or Conrad Johnson Tube Pre-Amp???
To get the best sound out of the Conrad or ARC make sure that the input impedance of the S/300 is at least 10x or 100x greater than the output impedance of the preamplifer. That is why Thorman thought that the ARC was bright and shrill and why the...
