Shunyata Hydra or PS-600 PS audio ???? PS Audio 600. No question.
Best Electrostatic Cans-Stax vs. Koss I'd say the Stax. But with either, you'll hear the all the good--and the bad--in your system. Ultimately, I couldn't bear to hear the bad, and that in-your-brain "headphone effect" drove me nuts.
Capacitance: Help me understand Although I'll probably be trashed by other engineers, I think it all has to do with the speed of electrons.Capacitance slows them down. (Remember EE-101: voltage can't chage instantaneously through a capacitor.) Ideally you to want them to move as...
Attention Scientists, Engineers and Na-s Please don't tar us all with the same brush. I'm an engineer/scientist who still trusts his ears over any piece of test equipment.
Shure V-15vmr VS V-15 III Caution: the V-15mr is ultra fragile, I easily trashed 3.Try Needledoctor.com for relacement styli.
New power cords for M/L Aerius A cheaper way to go is to clip on a small ferrite block at the speaker end of the stock power cord. Big speakers are big antennas.
Electronic Circuitry For Dummies I'd buy a basic electronics experiment kit from Rat Shack or similar from a local toy store. You learn best by doing. It's fun, too.
Who has actually listened to DVD audio? I have both, so can compare. True, little s/w is out there in DVD-A... Natalie Merchant's "Tiger Lily" being the best DVD-A I've heard. "San Andreas Fault" sounds so spooky in 5.1 channels it literally makes the hairs on the back of your neck jump...
cable length It's not how long it is, it's how you use it... Oh, CABLE length! Excuse me; I thought we were talking about something else. Wrong chat area.
TV Interference/RF Noise??? Well, if you can't move the bridge, lower the river--try using a VCR's tuner connected via a l-o-n-g video cable to feed your TV (bypassing its tuner of course). Move that VCR (or component tuner) around your room, just to see if the problem is ex...
How did U get into this expensive hobby? S-E-X. Mucho-macho stereo systems attracted the chicks like flies to honey! They say "Music hath charms..." It certainly does. Why does the middle-aged balding guy get the red Porshe? Because he likes the color?? COME ON guys! Stop the b.s.; fess up!
Speaker punishing bass Telarc's CD of "1812 Overture" of course. The cannon shots have bass down to 6hz!! That's s-i-x. Maybe too punishing; more like speaker abuse...
Consumer Alert PS300 actual voltage That "117" volt ideal is the RMS value for a 60-Hz sinewave only. Are you measuring your 300 output at 60 Hz, no multiwave, no higher frequency settings? Otherwise the reading will be higher.
TV Interference/RF Noise??? I think you may need to uncouple the cable ground from your audio system ground. There could be a loop. Use a floating ground ballun on your coax cable, such as the "M.A.G.I.C. box ground loop eliminator. Audio Outlet, among others, sells it: 914-... |
