Dynaudio C-1 or Harbeth-7-es-III
I haven't heard the Dynaudios, however I own the C7es3. Probably the reason that so few of them appear on the used market is because they are astoundingly good speakers. Some might quibble about certain characteristics about them but, in my mind, ...
The Best modifications for the Sony 5400 sacd
The player costs $1500 retail and sounds very good as is. Paying more than another 100% in price is not going to yield a 100% improvement in sound quality. I realize we can't really quantify "sound quality" but just for the sake of argument I'll b...
The Best modifications for the Sony 5400 sacd
The following quote is from the ModWright XA-5400ES Ultimate Truth Mod web page: "The tubes are purposely driven VERY conservatively to give 10,000-12,000 hours + of tube life."I'm sure this mod improves the sound quality of the player however, I ...
Most attractive power cables?
Stock power cables all look more or less the same: black plastic cords varying only slightly by thickness and length. As long as cable manufacturers are going to the trouble of making their cables visually distinctive, I think it's fair game to di...
Good DACs for Apple Airport Express? Or receivers?
Take a look at the Logitech Squeezebox Touch. While it may not be the ultimate in sound quality, it is the ultimate in convenience.
Anyone got and album database for iPhone?
Look at "OrangeCD Catalog", it's not for the iPhone but you can publish to a webpage that you can access via Safari on the iPhone.
Which SACD sound better than Vinyl
It's true that SACDs have the potential to sound much better than red book CDs, however the very best RBCDs generally sound better than mediocre SACDs. Exceptional SACDs are much better than even the best RBCDs. As an example for anyone who doubts...
Harbeth Hl-5 or Harbeth-7es
The good news is with those two choices, you can't go wrong. The bad news is probably no one can answer that question except you. If price is not a consideration, do you have the room for the larger HL-5s? If you do, personally, I would go for tho...
Mahler, Piano and Strings in A Minor

SACD vs RBCD players
Thank you all for your input. After reading this thread through several times I've decided to go with an SACD player. The purpose of my prior post is simply to get some kind of an idea of how much SACD use I'm going to get out of the player. In th...
SACD vs RBCD players
The following is not really an argument against SACD, because the format is slowly growing and SACD players play RBCDs as well, however I'm trying to gain a realistic idea of how much use I will truly get from a SACD player. There appear to be roug...
SACD vs RBCD players
Chayro, that would be a very big concern for me. While I do want SACD playback, I don't want to sacrifice RBCD playback. If the XA9000es doesn't play RBCDs as well as it plays SACDs, that would give me second thoughts.
SACD vs RBCD players
Interesting arguments, however, if SACD is "vastly superior" to RBCD ( and I do listen primarily to classical music ), I really wouldn't mind the "hassels" of investing in the purchase of SACDs. Do you other comentors also feel that SACD is at lea...
SACD vs RBCD players
"vastly superior" are some pretty strong words. Admittedly, I have yet to hear SACD, though I own a few dozen hybrid discs. Why are there not more SACD-player manufacturers in the high end?
