Is there a big difference in digital streaming devices? Over the last 5-10 years DAC's have gotten MUCH better at dealing with high jitter sources. If you are dealing with a modern unit, the difference in streaming devices is a lot smaller than it will be with older. Best,E
Atmos’ killer app? Sounds like, amusingly, headphones Sorry for being so flippant. Let me back up a bit. The problem with movie sound is that it has always been effect driven, AND is designed to work for the broadest seating areas possible. Dolby sells equipment and WOW. Special effects. Personally I...
Atmos’ killer app? Sounds like, amusingly, headphones Um, I get better sound through my speakers than my headphones, and I don't need no Atmos to do it. Best,E
Step down transformer (220V to 100/110V) or buy 220V version of Shindo preamp @essrand The type of transformer matters. Most step down transformers are also called autotransformers. They use a single winding to convert the voltage from 220 to something less. More here:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AutotransformerA balanced...
What happened to CAT? Thanks Davey!! That's very interesting. :) I always think of CJ as more colorful in the pre's, but dynamic in the amps. I hope to participants I did not come across as having an axe to grind. I'm just thinking about my next upgrades. :)Best,E
What happened to CAT? Yeay. :) So can someone tell me about their experiences with CAT preamps vs. CJ or modern AR? I haven't had a chance to hear them very often, so comments from others would be welcome. Best,E
Step down transformer (220V to 100/110V) or buy 220V version of Shindo preamp About sound, if you use a fully balanced transformer, you may actually improve the overall sound quality. Best,E
Step down transformer (220V to 100/110V) or buy 220V version of Shindo preamp If you want a transformer that has 120VAC at the inputs, then you want a step-up transformer. :) If you want a transformer that has 220VAC at the inputs and provides 120VAC to the pre, you want a step-down. Best,E
What 2 channel Amp would you Buy for $6k? If I had the money and space, these: https://www.audiogon.com/listings/tube-mono-amps-w-c1-teflon-cap-upgrade-l-k-2017-10-30-amplifiers?a...
Upgrading of Minimus 7's Hey Bobcat, You should also research and post in DIYAudio ’s Multi-Way forum. I’ve seen a couple of threads on RS speakers. You may find more details there:http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/multi-way/Best,E
How to optimize sub integration with 2 channel? If you do not wish to use a high pass / EQ for the main speaekrs there IS a cheat you can use. :) Stuff the ports, converting them into sealed speakers. This will give them a higher cut-off than normal and increase power handling. This will also m...
B&W 805 Nautilus for PC? Are they bi-wireable? Try disconnecting the tweeter section. Does it sound the same? If so, tweets aren't working.
Switch preamp? OP:When I said the system was "cold" I really was talking about the sound of the gear you purchsed, not so much the age! :) Best,E
To bi-amp B&W 802n or not RH, be a little more specific. Have you ever tried my suggestion? Almost all true full-range speakers benefit from EQ in the bass, but keeping the EQ out of the mid/treble is often desirable by purists. Best,E
B&W 802 - Analysis and Upgrade One thing very interesting here is the difference between the direct and the power response. The ideal crossover (a curve I very much like!) did not work in Troel's room because there was too much midrange energy left over. He ends up in an inter... |
