Soldered VS ...everything else Not blind tested, but solder rather sucks. I mean, it's really not that good of a conductor when it comes right down to it. If you do use banana plugs though, I prefer the WBT method, where you hard crimp a sleeve onto the wire, and then you screw...
Powering nine home speakers Look at the Parasound Zonemaster line.
JBL Speaker? Should I use it for outdoor theater? You need to be more specific. Are we talking pro line or consumer, and how large of an outdoor theater? I'm absolutely certain you can find a professional solution. :) Best,E
Powering nine home speakers Well if this is a stereo set up, then your answer is to do more of a pro/distribution type setup. If you are using this for movies, why oh why do you have 9 speakers in your ceiling??
Best bookshelf speakers <$2000 +1 for Fritz. Great value and well balanced. Top of the line parts for a fraction of other brand costs. Last audio show I went to, I talked with a couple of recording professionals, both women, and Fritz was one of the few brands they would listen...
Over and Under Biasing as means for tone control Well in consumer-land, tone control refers to bass and treble balance controls. I'm not sure bias will affect this in that sense.Under-biasing risks excessive distortion, over bias risks excessive heat and shortened (possibly VERY short) tube life.
Woofers in or out? My opinion is that your ears matter more than anything else. I also believe room acoustics are always worth investing in. :) Best,E
Go dual small sub, switch to closed sub or buy a bigger sub? If you have a wide range of placement options, go dual sub. If you are locked in, go one big sub. Room treatment always help. Best,E
Does impedance of a speaker change when one bi-amps? Beside the advantage of a bi-amped speaker presenting an impedance of less variation to each of the two power amps than one amp sees from a non-bi-amped speaker Sorry @BDP24 this is not really true as you put it. See from my blog post and any simu...

Novel approach to tackle Speaker Vibrations? Yes, I've recommended this before, and your assessment is the same as mine:The back and forth motion of the drivers can in some cases actually move the speaker baffle causing noticeable doppler like distortion. See Newton's Third Law. It does not ...
What speakers use a "minimal" crossover? The Seas A23 kit uses a single capacitor, single resistor:https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/2-way-speaker-kits/seas-a26-10-2-way-kit-pair-based-on-the-cla...Of course, there are a number of "full range" designs which have zero electrical cross...
Does impedance of a speaker change when one bi-amps? Forgot I have a blog post for this:https://speakermakersjourney.blogspot.com/2016/12/crossover-basics-impedance.htmlBest,E
Does impedance of a speaker change when one bi-amps? Assuming the crossover is split, yes. So in a typical two way the tweeter impedance will go to infinity in the bass, and the opposite in the woofer. The impedance will rise to infinity in the treble. Of course, that "infinity" may be at 1 Hz and 1...
Suggestions for Class D amplifiers with Marantz AV7704 and B&W cdm9nt combo for HT. @caphill Class D amps are also analog if I am not mistaken. Class D amps are binary, but not digital. Weird, right? They are not "digital" because they lack an Analog to Digital conversion stage, however, the output stage switches between on and ... |
