Mixing XLR and RCA outputs when biamping?
Yep,  a Y splitter is simple. The issue with passive bi-amping (without a crossover) is that both amp channels still provide the same voltage swing, but with twice the power supply you used to have. With a miniDSP you can do a couple of more adv...

Mixing XLR and RCA outputs when biamping?
My suggestion was hybrid, keep the mid to tweeter cross and use a minDSP  for mid to woofer

WBC makes cables out of several different manufacturers. I’m a big fan of them with Mogami for interconnects and speaker.

That amp deserves many years of love, but it's not necessarily a bad meter, it could be the driving circuitry.  I'm sure your dealer has pointed you in the right direction though.

Also, didn't these speakers come with an "alignment filter" of some sort?  You can do away with it if you go fully active.  Replace the bass EQ in the filter box and use the DSP instead.
Mixing XLR and RCA outputs when biamping?
Well if you were considering doing more work, those are good speakers to take semi-active.  Using a 2-way active crossover, and by passing the woofer low pass and mid high pass can increase your dynamic range and give you some powerful EQ capabili...

It’s probably a simple fix, but if you don’t know how to open the case, I’m really worried you don’t know what you’ll be looking at once you are inside.  It is unlikely the issue will be visible.  You won't see a burned out part to replace or brok...

The levels are probably not going to be the same.  Use a Y splitter.
Is there any such thing as a bad sounding DAC these days?
My subjective observation is yes, but... Around 2000 DAC's universally improved how well they played Redbook.  The days of big jumps in sound quality between a 44.1/16 bit recording and 96/24 have all but vanished with only very small differences...
How would an interconnect that seems intact in every way stop working, and how to fix?
My suggestion is make your own out of Connex pure silver interconnects so you learn how to repair your own. :) A multimeter and soldering iron are waiting to meet you.
I’m considering upgrading my speakers internal wiring
OP: I do want to warn you that you may be on the wrong path.  Maybe the path you really want to be on is building your own kits from scratch? Plenty of those at Madisound or Parts Express or Meniscus.  Also, you probably want to head over to DIY...
What's the weakest link in my stereo set up? I live in a townhome, so limited on space.
My suggestion, besides room treatments, is get a Furman with SMP.   I did the apartment lifestyle most of my life and Furman always cleaned up the sound.

Sounds like a great learning experience. Make sure you dont go cheap on tools, especially crimpers and connectors Stay away from crimp connectors from parts express, they are universally garbage.
Special Forty?
Rooms do matter.  Also consider trying speakers with less toe-in.  Most speakers are actually not designed to point right at your head.  Also try listening below the tweeter firing line.  Often you'll find a much fuller presentation that way.
