Speakers to pair with Quicksilver mid mono
Now that I see your space, it is a dilemma, I suggest true bookcase speakers (not small monitors called bookcase these days) horizontal on those shelves, keeping all drivers at same height, as low as can be achieved. How DEEP are those shelves __...
Where to go next with the turntable
you might want to try changing the cartridge 1st, then later the TT, use the new cartridge on the new TT's tonearm. The best bass I ever had was a combo of the Thorens TD124’s 9lb platter, SME 3009 tonearm (with removable headshell) with Shure’s ...
All speakers have a little EQ built in
bruce19 AR-2ax’s were my 1st decent speakers while in college. LP’s, FM, listened to the nightbird when working late or all night https://www.google.com/search?q=allison+steele+the+nightbird&rlz=1C1JSBI_enUS1081US1081&oq=night...
Need help chosing a preamp
Consider use of other equipment as well as the DAC, and eventual resale, I’d go with matching Luxman pieces, UNLESS the Luxman was lacking a feature I wanted.

vinylshadow "Removeable headshells add resonance and are a weak link in a tonearm. Convenient but lower performance." It's a weak theory that limits optional use of cartridges for so many. Limitations of features of tonearms on sooo many TTs tod...
Speakers to pair with Quicksilver mid mono
I’m confused. Great room, 14’ ceiling, why not use the existing ones??? What model are the existing ones? If you do not know, search the internet 'klipsch speakers', find out what they are that way. Those amps, EL-34, what specific amp are they ...
What happens when the stylus tip wears out on a $12,000 cartridge?
Before you buy it, check with Steve Leung at VAS, ask him if he can re-tip and/or rebuild suspension/cantilever/tip. Worse than wear would be bending or snapping the cantilever. I sometimes buy broken cartridges that I know he can rebuild. I ask ...
Where to go next with the turntable
Get thee a tonearm with removable headshell!  You can get the few inexpensive tools and gather the skills to align a cartridge. Then, Stereo MM; Stereo MC; Mono; other alternates, hear friend's cartridges on your system, ....
Started with $1k speakers … what now?
my last for instance, seller more than likely would agree to drop off at UPS in system 1 day, sensitivity 92db, https://www.usaudiomart.com/details/650065421-focal-aria-936-floor-stander-speakers/
Started with $1k speakers … what now?
top of your 5k budget, sensitivity 104db, low amp power needed. is your space large? you would need to use UPS pack and ship, get seller to simply drop them off. With shipping cost over your budget, but those should sound amazing in a large space...
Started with $1k speakers … what now?
i.e. just listed, excellent speakers, gorgeous rosewood, $2,000. but only 87db sensitivity. says perfect, I would ask for photos of drivers with grilles off, see surrounds of drivers with cones. https://www.ebay.com/itm/325982859403   see...
Started with $1k speakers … what now?
Without a doubt, you can definitely get improved sound beyond those small 2 way speakers within your budget. I always recommend trying to find efficient (high sensitivity 90 or above), so less amp power is needed. That keeps the amp size/weight/c...
Are there any issues with connecting speaker wire in this manner?
Vintage Amps used bare wires, wrapped around a screw. Note: there was a separate flat piece of metal, that made good pressure on the wire without twisting the wires when tightening. Vintage McIntosh Speaker Terminals, the metal tab was spring lo...
