Why are high efficiency speakers preferred for low volume listening?
You cannot generalize, but consider that highly efficient speakers are likely to involve horns, the throat/directivity of horns give dispersion control cones do not. i.e. smooth ’received’ frequency response curve at the listening position (not ...
McIntosh tube amplifier diagram
McIntosh site only shows owners manual download for your model (no schematics). I would write the factory requesting a service manual, see what they say.
Reel to reel
My advice, spend more now, get auto-reverse, far easier/thus more enjoyable/likely to use frequently than single direction, manual flip, rewind ... I progressed thru every Teac generation, bit by bit, ended up with Teac X1000R (6 head auto-revers...
If you had to choose...
I always recommend limiting your selection to efficient speakers. Think long, think future amps, think ease of trying tubes: get/keep yourself in a lower power needs situation which has the advantages of: more competition/availability new or used...
Half-Speed Masters - are they worth double dipping?
I don't buy them, I just want to add a related comment: 180 gram: many I bought had warps, replacements, better still not flat like most 'stnd' thickness (new and old) I won't buy the heavy vinyl any more. 45 rpm. fun to try, can definitely be b...
Rebuilding vintage Rogers Studio 1 monitors
When you take things apart, the small gauge OEM wiring of equipment that built the success of so many Makers will surprise you. It is hard to resist ’good/better/best’, but you understand there is much over-doing of things, especially wire gauges....

Integrated tube amp as amp only

Shocked. Need Opinions. How muck power do I need?
That is a huge space for those speakers, and the impression of diminished bass is relative to prior powerful amps, perhaps making more bass out of those pairs of 6.5", but with more distortion than you are/were aware of. I would want larger woofe...

A few have asked me in PM what the heck is my Manual Cleaning method? Of course you can prove this is a horrible thing to do to LP’s, but Manually Clean LPs Lots of words but it is easy. critical for success: ama zon, sort by price: lowest. ...

grislybutter Interesting, that's far more than subtle acoustic change resulting from a relatively small physical change
room setup suggesion needed
Large Room for Small Audience is Difficult (you or you and a mate/friend perhaps) Square Rooms are Problematic ....................................... My suggestion, use the room differently, sub-divide by use, not necessarily walls, although t...
I’m afraid my Audio Aero Capitole mk2 has died
Long Shot, you never know, you might get lucky: What if a button that engages MUTE is stuck, on the remote or the unit. You could take the batteries out of the remote to see if you get lucky. If a MUTE button exists on the unit, try taking the c...
Sometimes you just get lucky
stuartk Wearing that Tie gave me Great Luck, the topic here. My last comment on this side-bender I didn't mean to start: America, despite behavior, has a very high percentage (63%) of people declaring themselves Christians. It always amazes me ...
