McIntosh vs. Marantz ...... sonics? Check out audioclassics.com for ideas. I like a 1500 or 1700 better than the all solid state models.
McIntosh vs. Marantz ...... sonics? My Mac 1700 was a huge leap above my Marantz 2216. Both were mint, the mac phono stage is far superior. The Marantz tuner sections are really nice.
Saved by a PS Audio UPC 200-need replacement board Scott McGowan was great. For a $35 part, it saved $8k worth of gear!
Fast/Slow fuse? Rwwear is right! Don't do it. You can get by with lower voltage fuses temporarily I believe but get the right ones. You can cook your gear. Also, if the amp blew a fuse something bigger may be wrong any way.
Used Made in America amps - multichan under $1200? McIntosh 7106
Opinions please on a starter audiophile system? You can get a lot of stereo for $4000. Keep in mind that it will sound very different at home than in a store. Don't be afraid to drag an amp and pre around to test speakers or even bring gear home to try on your speakers. I'd revamp the entire sy...
Cartridge for SOTA SAPH/SME3009II ? I love my Clearaudio Aurum Beta S, however if money is a factor a Goldring 1042 will get you 90% of the way there for 1/2 the money.
Can headphone outs Sony C555ES replace a preamp? Sony's are known for their quality outputs on the cd players. Nothing new here. As long as you don't have other sources, stick with it.
Television through tube preamp? I'd go one step further and try to plug the audio into a different circuit than the TV if possible.
What are the weakest components in my system? Swapping the HK for a nice little integrated such as a Creek, Cambridge, Music Hall or similar will make a huge difference...unless you want theater too.
Best non-Magnepan rears to mate w/Maggie fronts? Here's my solution: Realistic Lineaum Pro LX-5's if you can find them. The tweeter in them may actually match the feel of the MMG with a wide soundstage? Very clean, crisp, not harsh and very wide dispersion. Cheap too.
anyone know the best tubes for pv10al....... By the way, I called CJ a while back. They have a VERY strong opinion on what tubes to use.
Can a new Cambridge 540p be so loud? There is no comparison between the 540 and 640. The 640 is way better (I own one). You need to try a different phono stage before throwing more money at the problem. I love the 640 but your table may have issues with Cambridge?
Best non-Magnepan rears to mate w/Maggie fronts? Wall mounted? Stand mounted? Bookshelf? Price range?
anyone know the best tubes for pv10al....... CJ's don't roll like many others. Stick with factory suggestions. GE 5751's, maybe NOS US made 12ax7's. Call CJ to see what they suggest... |
