phono stage recommendations for garrard zero 100
I got my 640 from Spearitsound!I chose it over the Bellari for several reasons: I went for quality over quanity-the Bellari has headphone, volume and a fun little tube but at what expense to quality for that price range? Also the 640 is switchable...
Help---What happens when a tube
I don't think I would leave a tubed unit on all of the time?A good 12ax7 will last 3000 to 5000 hours. On 24/7 that will get you 4-6 months on a telefunken. If your unit has cheapo Chinese or Russian tubes, you easily could have burnt it out. Howev...

Cambridge 640, you should find it for around $179 new, my preference in this range.
Maggie MG12QR's what information can you share?
Great sound, very narrow "sweet spot", extremely power hungry, really like some space around them to sound best, extremely detailed highs that won't hide or smooth over bad sound.

Gtshelby65-can you mail me 4? Thanks

I took a big plunge on tweaks. I just got back a Music Hall unit from Chris Johnson at Parts Connexion. WOW, this moved it up several levels...worth every penny.
Amp for some new Gallos
I agree with Jjmali. Break them in for a few weeks/months before spending much on an amp. They will "soften" up over time and will have less of a need for the tube sound.
Help....I have a blank slate and am flying blind
If everything goes through the pre-amp, don't get cheap here. If you get a multizone pre like an Anthem or Sunfire, you will be set. Most good receivers will work but, it takes a lot to make Totems go...For zone 2, most 80-100 watt amps will work....

Sorry to be slow here. I'd put WXT's against Mullards any day. I have owned both. Don't care for most Amperex (except the ones made by mullard...), Telefunkens are always the best all around tube, Golden Dragons are the premium Chinese and are wha...

Dark Grey convuluted foam
Fire hazards??? That's why some clubs have had massive fires. Only certain foam will pass code. Most foam burns like mad. Spend real money on the certified stuff.
Rotel vs NAD vs Marantz
Buy Denon! I've had them all and keep going back to Denon. All 3 companies can make excellent pieces but for the money, Denon wins out of the big guys. My last buy was a Music Hall.
It's been said before, but I'll say it again...
I try to involve a phone call too. If I'm spending or getting "big" bucks, I want to make sure that the person on the other end is a decent soul...

Defending Svetlana: The "WXT" versions are very nice quality. I'd put them above most other new tubes. Maybe I've been lucky?
