Does bewiring decrease "wholeness" ?
I have been a sceptic about bi-wire hookup, except for the fact that you probably end up with more copper (lower resistance). I have never heard any technical explanation of why bi-wire is better...just the usual "trust me it sounds better".Howeve...
Power cord? Why?
sean...When twisted together three #12 conductors were obviously too big to fit even a heavy duty connector. No problem. I soldered the twisted triad together, and then milled it down with a grinder so as to just barely fit the connector.
Opinions: Marantz DV-12S1 vs Pioneer Elite 45a
The DV45A and the DV47A use the same AUDIO D/As...192KHz/24 bit...three of them. The 47A VIDEO D/A is 108MHz/12 bit...whereas the 45A is 54MHz/10 bit. If your main interest is audio, the 45A is obviously the sensible choice. The 47A would theoreti...
Tuners and Antennas
FM tuners will "capture" a signal that is above a very low threshold (with modern tuners), and as long as your signal is above that capture level a stronger signal (less gain loss) doesn't matter. A splitter incurs a gain loss, but S/N ratio is un...
optical or coaxial audio cable?
Nrenter...I have not compared the 2-CH analog input against the MULTI input (also analog). I would take ROTEL's word that it's the same signal. Of course if you use the MULTI input you forgo any capability for matrix multichannel playback of the s...
Power cord? Why?
sean...what do you mean "staggered"? My "stack" is HOT/NEUT/HOT/NEUT/HOT/NEUT/
source disappointment
I used a Panasonic XP50 for a while and thought that its sonic performance was excellent. (And it is pretty). My only gripe was that it doesn't do SACD's. You must remember that D/A technology has advanced greatly in the last few years, largely as...
Advice on MM/MC phono pre-amp please.
Improper (not as designed) loading of the pickup will probably affect its sonic qualities (eg: frequency response) as well as volume. There is no risk of damage.I have not seen the schematic of the Accuphase amplifier, but I don't think you can al...
optical or coaxial audio cable?
Nrenter...It defaults to the analog signal that is designated for the same input selection as the digital signal. In my case I have Coaxial and 2-CH Analog DVD signals assigned to VIDEO 2, which I have labeled "DISC". If I play a regular CD, the d...
Power cord? Why?
sean...3 Hot, 3 Neutral, stacked and twisted as a stack. I am using a 3 prong plug and I have a ground wire connected, but since the original design had no ground wire on the power line (there is a separate grounding lug on the chassis) this condu...
Power cord? Why?
sean...the wire has been twisted...six strands of #12, solid core, thin teflon insulation, with heavy duty plug on the end. It may be a while until I get the test run. When it happens I will report results in a new post.
Could This Be Your Next Power Conditioner?
The least expensive and most reliable way to "get off the grid" would be to use a small motor/generator set. Usually these are used to generate DC power from a 110VAC line (for example 400VDC which some military equipment uses), but there is no re...
Best method for 2 sets of speakers from 1 system?
Best bet would be to pick up a second power amplifier, in the $200 to $300 range, for the outdoor speakers. You would not have any issue of low impedance with two speakers connected in parallel, and the outside system would be decoupled from the i...
Power cord? Why?
sean...I don't think that I need such a good power cord now that I am operating on my cold fusion electric generator.
Power cord? Why?
I bet that someone buys them!
