where do you cross over your ht setup Vedric...I read your earlier post. Sorry, but I believe that a 25Hz crossover (mains) is just about the same as no crossover. 35 Hz (center) and 40 Hz rears barely qualify as a X/O (IMHO). Remember that no crossover is a complete cutoff, and there...
Analog a dying breed Yesterday I happened to be listening to the local NPR FM radio station, and they were playing various LP's of historic performances of classical music, mostly from the 1940s. The LF rumble was simply awful, and it was on the discs, not the turntab...
Can you switch out drivers from another company??? Subaruguru...I suppose that making chicken soup can be turned into rocket science! :) In particular it isn't rocket science to know that a SMALLER capacitor (not a larger one) will raise the tweeter X/O frequency.Tweeter substitution is a piece of...
where do you cross over your ht setup Vedric...Take off the grill and look at what your woofer is doing while it reproduces 20 Hz (or even 30 Hz). Do you want that going on while it is trying to reproduce the critical 80-800 Hz range? Same goes for the power amp.
Maggies on my mind. America...You are going to love the Carver ZR1600, and your Maggies will love you for it. No speaker responds more to amplifier brute force like Maggies. I have run my set of three MG1.6 with amps ranging from 100 watts to the Carver at 600, and e...
Can you switch out drivers from another company??? Suggestion...To minimize experimental cost, try doing one speaker, and then compare results with the other one. Assuming the nominal impedance of the two tweeters match, the crossover network will probably be OK except perhaps for the tweeter "pad...
Is solid state on the brink of extinction? Marakanetz...Digital amps are not all that complicated, in fact all audio amplifier circuitry is rather simple compared with other types of electronics. In practice, all the complexity of the digital amp is in one module that you buy from TriPath ...
Combining different speakers to get better sound If it sounds good (to you) it sounds good (to you). You are correct that different speakers excel at different kinds of music, but the idea of using both at once is doubtful. Also putting them in series is not a great idea. However, (see line 1).
where do you cross over your ht setup I have come to the conclusion that SW/Main crossover should be set based on what your particular SW can do rather than what your Mains can do. Any decent Main speaker ought to get down to 40 Hz or so, but doing so may adversely affect the Mid bass...
SACD 2 channel vs Redbook 2 Channel Nrchy...Error correction encoding of a digital data transmission is not an admission of a problem. It is a way to operate the transmission at a higher bandwidth. Correctable errors are intended to occur. By accepting this the hardware can be run a...
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart...RIP Yu11375...I read the essay. Thanks for the reference. It is packed with great detail about Mozart, far too much to be incorporated in a Play or movie. It is exactly what one would expect from a historian (my dad was one). For example: Why did the m...
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart...RIP Yu11375...The extent to which the Play/Movie embellished Mozart's life is debatable. That it did so to some extent is true. All stories on historical characters are "improved" a bit to make them more interesting, and this one is no worse than most...
SACD 2 channel vs Redbook 2 Channel Nrchy...Mr Nyquist's rule says that a 22KHz SINE WAVE can be recovered without error if the sampling rate is 44KHz.Do you listen to sine waves? 96 KHz is probably just barely adequate for music. Don't give Ritteri a hard time. The poor guy is obvi...
Is solid state on the brink of extinction? Muralman1..Go to www.Carverpro.com for info. $800 and change. There are mods, mostly to simply bypass the Prosound features that audiophiles don't need.
HDCD & SACD My Rotel 1066 SS processor includes HDCD, so it doesn't matter that my player lacks it. |
