The Great Cryo'd Outlet Test
Stehno...Sure I will redirect the outlets to you, but I don't have an address. E-Mail to me.
The Great Cryo'd Outlet Test
It's over.I have tried the Cryo'd outlet with every kind of audio equipment that I have (no tubes) and am unable to hear, or measure, any difference between the Cryo's outlet and the plain one. The best test (IMHO) was driving two identical monobl...
Adcom Amps & Pres
I used Adcom amps for many years, usually in biamp systems where amplifier cost (particularly for multichannel) can really get out of hand. "Bang for the buck" really sums it up. The only problem I ever had was a blown power supply fuse (internal)...
Tube Shelf Life
Ed_sawyer...A military equipment that I was involved with had a vidicon tube, and to maintain its life we had a requirement to turn on and operate spare units for 30 minutes every 90 days. This was to get the getter hot. I guess there may be diffe...
Tube Shelf Life
Quincy...As you say, vacuum tubes generally include a "getter" to "get" stray atoms of gas that leak into the tube. However, I think that the getter needs to be hot to do its job, which means that the tube should be operated. Early vintage CRT tub...
sheep's wool vs. polyfil
Tvad...I believe (have read that) wool is slightly more efficient in sound absorption, and the reason is the microscopic stucture of the fibers.True audiophiles insist on wool from organicly-raised sheep:)
sheep's wool vs. polyfil
Wool was the original (and best) enclosure fill material. Its only drawback is that it can be attacked by moths. Dacron, or fiberglass are acceptable substitutes.
Phase Inversion
When you make a plot of the waveform, inversion certainly makes it LOOK different. But the difference is only evident for the first half-cycle of the waveform, a few milliseconds, and I really doubt that the ear can recognize sound that quickly.I ...
Should power cords have filters on them?
Power cord filters are required (by law) in some jusisdictions (Europe, as usual, is ahead of the USA) to prevent equipment from putting noise onto the power lines. This is the opposite to what audiophiles are worried about. Such a "filter" is pro...
Time to reflect - why do you post on Audiogon.....
I enjoy debating with Sean. He has a good deal of technical know-how, but is totally screwed up at times, and needs to be set straight. Of course, I am always correct :)
Center or Phantom Center?????
Boldstrummer...No. This is the same mixing that recording engineers do when that make stereo recordings from multitack original recordings.
Preserving high-end L and R while going surround
If you are going to use minimal equipment for the center and rear channels, don't bother. Much of the adverse comment in audiophile circles about multichannel sound results from this practice. The notion that the rear channels are ambience only de...
Speaker cable length for L/R channels critical?
Theaudiotweak...Tom...there are several quite straightforward questions that you are avoiding answering, (criticizing my system or my ears instead). Come on: give it a try.1. When a speaker weighing 50 pounds or more, is suspended by three feet or...
Speaker cable length for L/R channels critical?
Theaudiotweak...Why not? Don't the instruments move around a lot while they are being played and recorded?
Spectron Remote Sense any good?
The "remote sense" cable is not a new idea. All it does is include the cables inside the feedback loop of the amp. The result of this (at least in theory) is to remove whatever effect the cables have on the signal. In other words, make it sound as...
