VTL Tetrode/Triode Zaikesman...EL34 and 6V6 tubes are pentodes, but of course I now remember that the 300B tube is a triode.I note that a guitar amp is part of a sound creation system, not a sound reproduction system, so sounding "nice"is more important than sonic f...
2 Center Speakers in M-C/HT System? Gaudio_eek...My pre/pro is a Rotel RSP-1066. I do not actually use two center speakers since my system is just for music and there is no screen to get in the way. However, two speakers on each side of the screen, and playing the same signal will i...
How Loud Do You Listen??? Do You Know????????? For classical music the dynamic range is so great that in order to hear the quiet passages the volume control is set so that the loud parts run well over 90dB.
VTL Tetrode/Triode Are there any real triode amps, or even real triode tubes? When an amp equipped with KT88 or similar pentode tubes is opearated in "triode mode" it means that some extra hardware in the tube (grids) are just left unconnected. Can this be good?
Ideal Manufacturers for your local hi-fi shop...? If you seek financial success (or a good grade in your school work) sell Bose, and the like.If you want to go happily bankrupt, sell high end stuff.
Looking for Bass.... The MG 1.6 bass is significantly better than older Magneplanar models, and does not deserve the same "no bass" reputation. (But they are still power hungry).
2 Center Speakers in M-C/HT System? Keep them as close together as possible and it will work fine. My multichannel processor has two outputs for the center signal precisely for this situation.
one magneplanar mmg horizontally as centre channel Since you already have MMG in the back, give one a try as center. I doubt that laying the thing on its side will be as bad from the acoustic point of view as people say.I have three MG 1.6 for my front channels. With MG 1.6 on the sides, the MMG m...
Using two out of three channels--bad for the amp? Solid state (output stage) amps don't mind having no load, especially if no signal is input to that channel. I do remember that no load conditions were considered a problem with tube amps. To be completely safe, put a shorting plug on the input an...
Can a wall socket dramatically improve sound? Yes Tbg...Speak for yourself. I am very patient.
Wash, Cut, Polish & Demagnetize A very old thread with lots of ideas. Here are some that I didn't see.No light goes through the disc. It all gets reflected, but the pits in the disc are 1/4 wavelength deep so that the light reflected from the bottom is 180 degrees out of phase w...
Looking for Bass.... Before going to a subwoofer, make sure you have tried the Maggies with a powerful amp (at least 350 watts into 4 ohms). It really does make a difference. (My amps are 600 wpc). You didn't mention which Maggies you have. My MG1.6 are really good to...
Can a wall socket dramatically improve sound? Yes Tbg...Nice that your noise floor is lowered. My noise floor is already low enough to be completely inaudible, so I guess I don't need to "clean up" my AC power. The very high efficiency of your speakers may account for your noise problem.By the wa...
Hi Fi burnout. Some of us, in addition to enjoying music, also have an interest in technology. In the case of audio, the two interests are linked, but clearly are separate hobbies. My particular interest is in finding, and even designing/building, low cost equipm...
Speaker toe-in & stereo imaging Where a loudspeaker has a line array configuration, like a Magnepanar, and the tweeter section is on the outside, (per Magnepanar instructions) this has the effect of toe in, so you may want to keep the speakers physically straight. But then I hav... |
