ADCOM GFA 555-II distortion alert?
It is in the power amp. The "distortion indicator" simply tells you that the output, adjusted for gain, does not match the input within some tolerance. The comparitor circuit or possibly the tolerance-setting device is probably temperature sensiti...
bi-amp or not ot bi-amp?
Keeping the observations of a general nature, I think that biamping carries more advantage if you are using tube amplifiers, where high power is costly, and IM distortion remains an issue. I biamp using ss, but my rig would probably seem impractic...
Another sign SACD is dying
It really isn't fair to compare the 3-channel SACD with the LP mixed down, from the 3-channel masters, to 2-channel.
Does anyone have information on the Adcom 2535
Don't bridge 535s unless your speakers are 8 ohms.
Does anyone have information on the Adcom 2535
Why not just get two stereo 535? I have used Monoblocks, Stereo and Quad power amps. Monoblocks are the most flexible. Stereo next, and Multichannel last. At the moment I use three stereo amps (Carver ZR1600) like monoblocks biamping three speaker...
Cassette Recorder replacement?
Professional recording generally used DBX (I'm told) because it is better. (Pro DBX was not the same as what they marketed to the consumer...more complex). Dolby marketing stategy to the consumer (license the process inexpensively to hardware manu...
cable directionality
Fortunately it rarely makes any differencs!!I once installed shielded 300 ohm twinlead (not a common wire) for a TV, and was surprised to discover that the "proper" grounding for the shield was not grounded at either end.
Any speaker terminal passive crossovers?
Matchstikman...The Y-adapter will do nothing more than what your old preamp did. (It had a built in Y circuit).
cable directionality
Oh boy! There is some confusion here. I always heard that the arrow points in the direction of signal transmission (preamp to amp), which means that, for conventional grounding practice, the IC shield would be grounded at the TAIL of the arrow. I ...
Any speaker terminal passive crossovers?
Why not just give your new preamp an additional line out by using a Y-connector? And why do you need the FMOD? Powered SW generally have their own low pass filter.However..I assume that your SW has separate terminals for hookup to speakers. If so,...
ICEpower Digital Switching Amps?
Muralman1...From the picture I saw it does appear that the H20 power supply is, as you say "big enough to power a decent Class A solid state". But I still wonder why? The amp's high efficiency means that almost no power is wasted. And why does a t...
Lack of vinyl bass and midrange
1...Verify that pickup wiring is not out of phase between channels. 2...Compare left and right channels (using a mono LP if you have one). If they are the same suspect the pickup. If one channel is bad the RIAA equalization in the preamp might be ...
Utah 18" driversw/ alnico magnets
Gregm...Dirty little audiophile secret!! If it costs a lot it must be good.
Graphic Equalizer --Ugh
Of course there will be the anti-EQ, anti-digital, and anti-Chinese-made comments. This is why I suggested that the purchase (all $370 of it) be justified entirely by the RTA capability, which observes but does not affect the sound. I am sure that...

Have any of you guys stopped throwing the mud around long enough to notice that AIX records is making a real effort to provide audiophile quality DVDAs. Sure, they have tracks playable on DVDV equipment as well, but all in all it is an endevour th...
