Review: Luxman PD-284 Turntable
Sorry to say, but it sounds broken. However, it could be something simple - a detached or broken wire or contact, etc. You have nothing to lose at this point so you might want to open it up and check it out. I guess it could also be that the motor...

AT OC9 tracking problem. Worn out?
Eko - Would a worn stylus account for the bad tracking? It actually still sounds very nice. Well, because there are so many other variables, it's impossible to say whether a worn stylus is causing your problem. But, given my experience with the OC...

The much-maligned (by Audiophiles) Cerwin-Vega brand has long been a favorite of metal fans like yourself. The CLS-215 in particular has gotten some great reviews in print and web journals:http://www.cerwinvega.com/CLS215.phpI haven't heard it, bu...
AT OC9 tracking problem. Worn out?
The highly polished diamond on the OC9 tends to wear evenly, so you probably wouldn't notice any "wear" in the sense that your car's brakes or tires might be damaged. But, at 1000-1200 hours, the stylus is likely at the tail end of its useful lifes...
Mcintosh 200 with rotel amp rmb 1095??? good or ba
Do you mean the McIntosh C200 from the mid-2000s? If so, it was on the warm side of neutral but generally uncolored so it should be relatively transparent. That's what a good preamp should be.But I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to ach...
Please help me with a basic turntable
That particular Thorens is junk, avoid it. If you absolutely need automatic shutoff, the Thorens TD-190 is pretty good but it's around $600. The Dual CS-455 is around the same price, I believe, and has the same basic tonearm and drive system. Howe...
NAD 7600 Turns on briefly, then shuts off
I had the same problem with an NAD 7400 integrated.http://www.nadelectronics.com/img/datasheets/NAD_3400.pdfI sold it for parts. I've regretted it ever since. So if you can get it fixed for $200 or less, I say go for it. Even though new NAD stuff ...
Overhang for Ortofon 2M Bronze on Rega RB301
The 2M should come with a clip-on stylus guard. Better to use that than remove the stylus over and over again. It's a little tricky to use but there's more potential for damaging the stylus or cantilever by removing the stylus unit than by install...
Overhang for Ortofon 2M Bronze on Rega RB301
I would say surface noise performance will be at least comparable to, but quite possibly better than, the DL-160. That's extrapolating from my experience with the Denon vs the 2M Blue.Alignment will be critical since the 2M Black has a fine profil...
Overhang for Ortofon 2M Bronze on Rega RB301
I think the I think the Black would be overkill, especially if you are running it through the 400's phono stage. In fact, if that's what you're doing, the P5 is overkill, too -- though that's my kind of overkill!I would go with the Bronze. You can...
NAD 7600 Turns on briefly, then shuts off
I assume you've tried disconnecting the speakers from the receiver's terminals, just to make sure there's not a short unrelated to the power interruption. If that's the case, and it still goes into protection mode without any load, try unplugging ...
Phono Stage Preamp-Rotel vs NAD
They're both very good units. I own and love the Rotel RQ-970BX. I'm on my second one, in fact. I've had more expensive units but I've found you need to spend between $500 and $1000 before you get into significant across-the-board improvements. Th...
DAC or a new cd player
(1) Get rid of your mixer. It sucks by audiophile standards and is holding back the rest of your system. The signal goes through way too many convoluted circuits before it gets to your amp. If your amp has a pre built in, why in God's name would y...
Insignia HD Tuner
I just saw a review of the Sony in The Audio Critic -- kind of a weird editorial philosophy there. Measurements rule and all amps sound the same provided they're well designed. But as far as tuners go, measurements don't lie and the Sony seems to ...
