P3-24 pitch instability
Sorry to say, but now that we know you bought it used, I tend to agree with the others that it was probably sold because of the problem you're having, and that the motor needs to be replaced. Maybe the seller will split it with you. The good news ...
P3-24 pitch instability
I guess it depends on how severe the pitch variations are -- you may be more sensitive to them than others. That said, I've owned probably a half-dozen Regas and I don't think I've seen a wobble like that in any of them. Since you have the latest ...
Distortion during high frequency passages
There are a lot of possibilities. The first thing I would confirm is that stylus isn't worn or damaged. To avoid permanently damaging your records, get it to your dealer for inspection under a microscope and do not use it until it gets a clean bil...
which is better ? MC phono stage or MM+step-up ?
The answer all depends on the cartridge, phono stage and step-up in question. There is no universal answer. Is there some particular combos you're looking at?
Phonostage & Cartridge Upgrade For Rega P5
There are a lot of folks who believe the Denon DL-103 is the most musical cartridge available for under $1000. I own one and love it. Don't be so quick to change it. I think you may be able to squeeze out significantly more performance with an out...
Decent Interconnects From Table to Preamp
I like Amandarae's suggestion as well. I wouldn't spend more than $30 or so. Good as those cartridges are, they will be limited not only by the table's tonearm wiring, but also the Ito arm itself, which was decent enough in its day but far surpass...
Decent Interconnects From Table to Preamp
The T65 is a good table, but the internal tonearm wiring was nothing special so you shouldn't need to spend a whole lot on a cable, especially if you're using a budget cartridge and your preamp's built-in phono stage. Something like this should be...
Thorens TD-290 or Project Debut III or ? advice
The TD290 is superior to the Debut. It has a decent arm, relatively solid base, very good motor/control board and is overall better built. It also has an optical auto shutoff, which is a nice feature. You'll need to spend about $1,000 in the new m...
Review: Denon DL-160 Cartridge
09-13-09: JberganI just threw my DL-160 on my Rega P5 after I got tired of the Grado Platinum's hum problem. The 160 does not have nearly the same dynamics or bass as the Platinum, but it has great detail and a wonderful soundstage. I am very happ...
other speaker cable, what to buy
Sticking strictly to European brands...Chord Company Silver Screen is good stuff, and only about 6 GBP per meter. QED Silver Anniversary seems pretty sound and highly regarded, also around the 6 GBP mark. However, if you can swing it, QED Revelati...
CD Player Under $1.5k With Vinyl Sound
I wasn't kidding about the Playstation, by the way. You can spend $5,000 and still not get a smoother, more grain-free sound. It sounds like that's your main priority, so for the price of lunch at Subway, it's worth a try.
CD Player Under $1.5k With Vinyl Sound
If you have $10 to spare, how about an old Sony PlayStation SCPH-1001? (Add about $30 for wireless remote control and plug-in IR receiver.)The original Rega Planet can be had for about $300 used. And the new Rega Apollo might fit the bill as well.
Elite DV-47Ai or move on is the question...
Pettyofficer brings up a great idea. I believe the DAC1 Pre has a balanced input, so it might not be a bad idea to have a balanced output installed on your Pioneer as he did. Should be a relatively cheap mod, much cheaper than what you were probab...
Elite DV-47Ai or move on is the question...
I don't understand why you wouldn't keep it, at least for now. It should make a fine transport. So why not plug the digital out into DAC1 Pre and plug the analog outs into the analog input. This way, you can use the DAC1 as an upgrade to Red Book ...
Can someone give me some insight.
Wire is supposed to conduct a signal, and some insulation is a nice feature. End of story. If you're hearing profound differences like the ones you describe merely by switching wires, one (or more) of them is damaged, or unsound design-wise, or so...
