To Tube or not to Tube...... Very interesting to read about your trek thru the tube amp wilderness Ebuzz. Would love to hear your impressions as things settle in.I started a somewhat similar trek 2 weeks ago by getting an upgraded Jolida 502P- I've had it for about 2 weeks no...
Bias for Jolida 502 P Amplifier I see where you are going Wolf - with a cute little sign - "You are now entering Stalag JD 502 P..."
Bias for Jolida 502 P Amplifier I called Jolida the other day wondering about why my 502P has 3 screw holes on the sides with no screws. The guy I talked to (not Jarred forgot to ask the name) said those are for the tube cover (didn't know one was available) anyway while talking...
Bias for Jolida 502 P Amplifier Thanks for the info Tbromgard. Which brand KT88's did you prefer and what improvements did you notice?
Bias for Jolida 502 P Amplifier Thanks guys. I've doing the adjustments after waiting about 10 minutes for the amp to warm up. (The manual says wait 5 minutes) but I think Bombaywalla's suggestion of waiting 30-45 minutes makes sense as the amp continues to warm up quite a bit o...
Bias for Jolida 502 P Amplifier Thanks all. I haven't been paying much attention to the bias red lights assuming that my meter would be more accurate. But now that you mention it, the LED's are either dark or barely flicking with no music playing and once the music gets going th...
Magnepan 1.7 Tweeter issue ... Sometimes its hard to see if the fuse is blown. Switch the fuse from the good speaker and check.
Odyssey Khartago vs. C. Johnson's 2250A?? Zenblaster, I quote from the independent test on the CJ 2500 carried out by Stereophile:"While the Conrad-Johnson MF2500 will drive 4 ohm loads with music, the output specification is given as 240Wpc (23.8dB/W) for 20Hz20kHz, at less than 1% of I...
Emotiva amplifiers review/experience? I think the UPA 1's are very fine amplifiers (Think about it, $600 for two monoblocks - 350 watts 4 ohms) and they do sound very very good with my Magneplanar MG 1 imp. As good as my Conrad Johnson MF 2300 A amp? ( $3,500 new) no, not quite as war...
Harbeth Compact 7s vs. Pioneer's $129 speakers "The Pioneer speakers are so inexpensive, it would be interesting to get five or six pairs and stack them on their sides (on 12-18" speaker stands) to see how they'd work as a low cost line array. That should expand the dynamic range by about 18 d...
'Holographic Sound Stage?' This be very true Danoroo. A good Cabernet is far more holographic than a Merlot. A Pinot Noir not so much...
Affordable SS amp that has tube characteristics Conrad Johnson MF2300A is a wonderful, warm amp. Very happy with mine. By the way, CJ has some factory packing materials available. It may be too convoluted but you might be able to arrange to have CJ ship the packing to the person selling the amp.
Classe CAM 350 upgrade for Conrad Johnson MF2500A? It seems that as CJ designs moved forward in time their SS designs "brightness and detail" dial got moved up a notch in each iteration. The MF2300A (which I have) is mellower than the 2500 and going in the opposite direction the amp prior to the 2...
conrad johnson mf-2300a heat Mine regularly runs about 130F and is perfectly normal. I just had it serviced by CJ and a kitchen thermometer on the heat sink shows the same about 130F at all times. I use 4 ohm Maggies but the temp doesn't seem to vary much at all.
Vintage Marantz I have a very nice Marantz 1200 integrated which is a combination of the Marantz 250 power amp and the 3300 preamp. It sounds very nice, warm, gutzy and musical looks wonderful and its not for sale. |
