DVD/CD player
I have recently owned the Bel Canto PL-1, the Arcam DV27A and the Ayre D1-x. I was looking for the best sound on CD first and the video quality second. The Ayre was by far the best of the bunch, in both CD audio and video, in fact I prefer the CD ...
Avantgarde UNO's 2.2 advice needed
I have the Duos, and have been through all the trials and tribulations involved with setting them up and getting everything to sound just how I want it. It took a long time and a lot of hard work especially with respect to speaker positioning. I m...
New tubes for Conrad Johnson17LS Pre
I have the same preamp and I just did what you are thinking of doing. I searched all over the web and based on what I read decided to try out a set of Amprex white label gold pin 6922s. I was expecting more improvment than I heard. I would say I m...
A.A. Capitole..unfortunately not yet..$$$$$$
If you plan on using a preamp in the system, I would suggest the Prima CD player. It's very close to as good as the Capitole Mk 2 (I own both) for 1/4th the price
Review: Rosinante Pursang S Speaker cable
I too love the Pursang cables. I've tried a bunch of cables over the years and was by far the happiest with his cables. I use them now in both of my systems and feel like my search for the right cables has ended.
AA capitole mk2 VS. Wadia 861
I've had both and the Audio Aero is a lot better to my ear. I'd say the Wadia sounds electronic or digital compared to the natural sound of the Capitole.
What is The Best DVD player for VIDEO?
At that price range I would try out the Arcam FMJ DV27A. It looks and sounds great. I would put it right on par with the Bel Canto PL-1 (9000.00) I do like the Ayre D1-x better, but it's 4x the price. The CD playback on the Arcam is super too.
Are horn speaker colored or more open and dynamic?
I love my horns too (Duos) Once properly set up they have provided me with some thrilling moments. I think they are especially good at reproducing the feeling you get from say a smokin' jazz trio onstage. They seem really great with smaller groups...
hi-end universal players?
I currently own the Bel Canto PL-1, the Arcam FMJ DV27A and the Ayre D1-x. The Bel Canto and Arcam are very close in performance, I could happily live with either, they both have a big robust sound and wide soundstage, they are both tonally excell...
Two versions of Audio Aero Prima 24/192 cdp?
I'm not absolute about this, but I believe the first version of the Prima had volume control. They ditched that for the second version and it is supposed to be far superior in fidelity than the volume control version. I can second Warrenh's enthus...
Have you had a hearing test?
I did the same thing as I was always feeling bothered that I was hearing a little less out of the right ear. I felt a constant nag of worrying that the balance was slightly tilted to the left. My hearing test showed that I had 100% in the left and...
hi-end universal players?
I just made a purchase of the Bel Canto PL-1, I'll let you know what I think when I get it up and running.
Best Redbood CD Player Used/New under $7K
I will also reccomend the Audio Aero Capitole Mk 2. I had the Wadia 860X, and I think the Capitole is far better especially in regards to naturalness. If you want to save a bundle of money and get a player that can compare to anything mentioned ch...
Shop w/me
I thought that Wilson WP 7 w/ Spectral sounded fantastic at the HE show last year, it was immediately apparent the minute you walked in the door that something special was happening, and got even better when you got in the sweet spot, huge soundst...
hi-end universal players?
I am thinking the same way, going with a universal player, mostly to save real estate on the rack, my main concern is for regular CD playback. I too was thinking Esoteric DV-50, or even Linn unidisk. From what I've read if you can handle the price...
