Parasound JC-1 amps. Preamp advice??
I added an Ayre K1-X preamp to my JC-1s and it's the best purchase I've ever made. I can't reccomend it highly enough. I get a smoother more tubelike sound then most tube systems I've heard.I've never heard the Ayre phono stage, I use a Whest with...
Was your first cartridge relatively expensive?
I was told by my dealer and others that the list of importance goes. 1.cartridge 2.phono stage 3.arm 4.table I have recently upgraded from an entry level setup to something that is far more expensive, and while the new rig sounds better, the big j...

Howie don't let S23chang's comments get you down. It's not that big of a deal to get into analog. Sure it's more complex than digital, but it's fun too and the rewards are well worth it. I would start with something like a Dynavector 10x5 or 20X. ...
Myth: low-power high-efficiency
Scott-I came to the exact conclusion you have, and feel the same about the energy and life of music comming from dynamics. I have moved from low power tube amps and horns to high power solid state and dynamic speakers, and it's in the area of dyna...
Diff in recording/reproduction in Analog/CD/SACD
I think Eldarford is wrong with regards to budget vs quality. I personally own two 10K plus CD players, as well as a table/arm/cart that I picked up on Audiogon for 750 dollars. The budget turntable is so much better than either digital player it'...
Diff in recording/reproduction in Analog/CD/SACD
Digital is a standard for playback and recording because of convenience alone. Think of CD sound as a 3.0 megapixel photo, SACD is 8.0 megapixel, analog is infinite megapixel, it's all there, not a stairstepped digital interpretation of the real t...
Diff in recording/reproduction in Analog/CD/SACD
I think Albert makes a very important point, that I have thought may have a lot to do with the bland sound we hear from CDs and that is that they are "dumbed" down in the process of getting from the master to the final pressed version we buy. I ha...
Acoustic Zen Silver Reference II ic users....
I am running the Silver Ref v. 1 from DVD/CD player to pre, and have owned quite a lot of AZ products over the year. I also am running the VS 4JR speakers. I was using a double run of AZ Satori on the JRs. A deal came up on a set of the Verbatim c...
I'm New To Vinyl - Which Turntable Should I Buy?
I got into vinyl a few months ago and I started with a Nottingham Horizon with a Dynavector 10x5 cartridge and a Whest phono stage. I had owned some very nice digital front ends like you do and I was blown away by how good this combo was, surpassi...
tube watts vs solid state watts
Of all the amps I've owned tube and solid state, multiple of each, I've yet to hear that a tube amp sounds louder than solid state. I've concluded that if you like your music dynamic like in real life, it takes some power to do that.
VTL MB450 vs BAT75SE???
I've had the 150SEs and the VTL 450s. I would say with your MLs you better go for the extra power. You could probably get away with the 150SEs and MLs, but that would be a lot more than a set of 450s. The 450s are awesome, another amp to consider ...
cell phones and tubes
The same thing happens to me, even in my truck, and I don't have tubes in my living room or my truck.
Von Schweikert VR4SR Loudspeaker
I thought these went for 8K, did they recently raise the price?
BEST BALANCED XLR TUBE PREAMP FOR JC-1 MONOS?
I was just going to recomend the preamp you already have even though it's not tube. I love the Ayre K1x with my JC1s, and felt like it's addition was a huge improvment to my system. I had the CJ 17 before and no balanced outs, so it may not be a g...
Audiophiles DO NOT USE DHL-READ MY NIGHTMARE
It is very easy to get your money. Just file a claim at your local court. I did this to UPS after they said they wouldn't pay on my claim for the CD player they broke of mine. I got the entire value that I insured in for, plus they sent me back th...
