seek a threashold power amplifier
Threshold didn't make a 1 horsepower Class AB amplifier in the 80s. They did make one in the late 80s/early 90s. It was called the S/1600e. It used the same chassis as the top of the line Class A SA/12e but was biased to operate in AB.From my book...

Jeff Rowland Capri phono card removable?
depends on tonearm/platter, etc.
Jeff Rowland Capri phono card removable?
I believe there is only 1 Carpi phono card - it has DIP switches for MM and MC.
Jeff Rowland Capri phono card removable?
The phono card is removable and an easy DIY job. The instructions are in the Capri manual. The manual can be downloaded from the JRDG website. The phono card is very good BTW.If you do remove the phono card, input 1 would indeed be a line level in...
Jeff Rowland Pre-Amps: The Corus & The Capri
I'm speaking from just a wattage point of view. There will be some sonic differences between Nelson's class A amps of 60W and 100W. However, I only noticed the greater headroom once I went from 60W to 125W or more. YMMV.

IMHO, the difference between the XA60.5 to the XA100.5 in terms of wattage/headroom is not worth the change. If you went to perhaps the XA160.5, there would be definite benefits.Personally, I like the match between a Rowland preamp (Capri) and Pas...
Bi-amping for HT
Set the SP12 to unity gain each time you use in setup in HT mode.
JL Audio
I agree with pgeek.
Details for bi-amping
Some more thoughts/issues.Yes, you do need to match gain; IMHO, the amps don't need to be of equal power but should be in the ballpark; and I would not use any Y-cable from a preamp. Most people using a bi-amp setup will use an active crossover bet...
How hot is pure Class A solid state vs. SET?
My Aleph 2s run hot. During the summer months here in NYC, I have to turn the AC on to cool the listening room and then shut it off during listening. After about 3 hours of continuous playing through the Alephs, I can feel the room getting hot. No...
disc player/transport longevity
@ Trelja: I think so too. The newer CD players/transports are "disposable items" while the order decks were much more robust and still going strong (including my Sony ES).
Sonic Frontiers Line 3 Mod by Parts Connection?
They are great components. Only fault I've had issues with are with the many many relays. As is common with relays, they tend to get stuck after a time.
