DAC with RS232 I actually own a Meridan 568. I use it for satellite TV (only), and use its digital outs into my Trinnov. For the application I need the DAC for, I cannot live with the 48/24 restriction though. Someone already pointed to the NAD m51, which would ...
Unsatisfied with Esoteric K-01: Alternatives? Elberoth, I know you auditioned the Diamond with Galaxy clock extensively. How does the signature compare to the diamond? Did you get your hands on a Femto 140 clock yet? I have Signature boxed up that just came for audiotioning myself. Galaxo clo...
Unsatisfied with Esoteric K-01: Alternatives? At this price level, I would explore the MSB line. Their transports will send SACD digitally to their DACs using proprietary I2S, and they are supposed to be very musical DACs. I will get one myself this week to confirm the theory.
The profiteers have struck Squeezebox Touch $750 There is a big difference between taking advantage of people in need of indispensible basic commodities in times of crisis, and selling a piece of electronics at market prices in my opinion.
Processor DACs If you are referring to the PC based version, it appears to still be there.http://shop.dirac.se/products/97-dirac-live-room-correction-suite-full-pre-release-version.aspx
Theta Compli used as a CD Player? internal DAC I think you can do better than a compli as a stand alone CD player for the budget. I used to have one myself. For starters, the Compli being a DVD player, you are paying for a lot of stuff you wont be needing. It is also very old and digital techn...
Component Impact Depends on what school of volume control thought you subscribe to. School 1 says all digital attenuation over say 6dB degrades the signal and is to be avoided (Steve N. is a proponent of this school). School 2 says unless you are doing more than s...
Best Acoustic Guitar Players Of All Time? Forgot to mention a lesser known but true giant of the acoustic guitar. Egberto Gismonti. Saw him live and swear to God, if you closed your eyes you would sometimes think there were two guitars playing. Try "De Repente" on the album "Sanfona".
Component Impact Ricred1, what pricerange DAC with VC are you looking at? Steve manufactures/sells one himself, so may be he refrains from answering to avoid perception of conflict of interest. I personally have been researching and playing with DAC + VC with and ...
Component Impact I have had some spectacular SQ improvements with better preamps in the past, culminating in the elimination of the preamp altogether as suggested by Steve. Just for kicks I reinserted a preamp into my multi channel system recently. It took me all ...
5.1 and 7.1 Information In Two Channels? So the answer is you don't loose the information. It will get mixed to the two channels.
Should Sound Quality of Computer Audio be improved I share Pettyofficers frustration about CDs no longer in print. However, this phenomenon has nothing to do with the emergence of downloadable music (in my case - I have been trying to get my hands on some Munir Bashir releases). These are simply e...
The one and only acoustic instrument? Funny you should bring it up - The solo acoustic instument I listen to most is the Oud. However, the Piano is far more differentiating in revealing quality of the sound system, so I would listen to Piano for audition, and go back to listening to O...
Two-channel is inferior to multi-channel, no? Interesting observation. I'm a great fan of MCH, but not so much in channel expansion processing modes (not for native 5.1 music anyway). Goes to show there are no golden rules and whatever works works.
DEQX - TACT - QOL - Thoughts on these? You can use a 4 channel Trinnov ST2-Pro (and the soon the be released Amethyst) to do DRC, and build the active cross-over. I have not compared to the other units mentioned, but those that have claim Trinnov is the gold standard in DRC. |
